Cristiano Ronaldo’s sister has been criticised by the Italian press after aiming a thinly veiled dig at Juventus following her superstar brother’s sensational return to Manchester United.

The Red Devils confirmed last Friday that the 36-year-old is returning to Old Trafford, 12 years after he left for Real Madrid in a then-world record transfer. On Monday, he completed his medical in Lisbon ahead of the move.

Ronaldo has spent the past three seasons in Turin with Juventus, where the Portuguese has failed to help deliver a much-desired Champions League triumph for the Old Lady.

Last season Juventus failed to win the Scudetto as their lowly fourth-placed finished denied them of a 10th-successive title, despite Ronaldo winning the golden boot.

And Katia Aveiro, elder sister of Ronaldo, has angered the Italian media after she appeared to make a disparaging comment about Juventus on Instagram.

The 44-year-old posted a mocked-up image of Ronaldo returning to Manchester United with the caption: ‘Welcome home my love, welcome to the place you deserve’.

Gazzetta dello Sport have responded to the subtle dig aimed by Aveiro, hitting out at the Portuguese for attempting to make a ‘mockery’ of the Italian giants.

The outlet claims that Aveiro was ‘removing a few stones from her shoes’, adding that she did not ‘miss the opportunity’ to ‘shoot an arrow’ at Juventus, with her post labelled as being ‘venomous’ by the paper.

Gazzetta dello Sport further allege that Aveiro has a history of making negative comments about Juventus, before suggesting that similar efforts could be made against United and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Ronaldo bagged 101 goals in 134 games for the Old Lady, winning the Scudetto twice and the Coppa Italia once. Solskjaer was unable to contain his delight at the prospect of linking up with Ronaldo again, this time as a manager rather than team-mate.

‘He is going to give everybody a boost, of course,’ the Norwegian said. ‘I played with him, he’s a great player, he is a top human being, he is a top professional, so he will give everybody in the squad and everybody around the club a buzz.

‘He’s a more experienced player than when he was here last time. He’s evolved and had an unbelievable career. All the talk about how he’s too old- just make it personal and he’ll show what he can do.’
