New York woman braves Hurricane Ida to go on a first date

As Hurricane Ida raged across parts of the US, entire cities were brought to a halt – but one TikToker braved the torrential rain in her pursuit of love.

Cassidy Dangler, 25, documented her arduous journey to her first date amid the torrential downpour in New York City on September 1 in a now-viral video that has been viewed more than 6.1 million times.

The New Yorker explained that she went on the date because the man she had plans with still wanted to meet, and she felt bad canceling at the last minute.

In the clip, she can be seen dressed in a hooded parka and rain boots while struggling with an umbrella that has been flipped upside down.

‘I’m soaked!’ she said, laughing.

The actor and group fitness instructor, who clearly had high hopes for the date, considering the effort she put in, added: ‘If I don’t find love with this kind of effort put in, who will?’

However, the night ended up being a disappointment. Not only was the date ‘one single hour long,’ according to Cassidy, but she also claimed she had to pay for herself, despite making the trek in the rain.

She noted that the man lived just 10 blocks away from the indoor rock climbing center where they met while she had to travel 80 blocks to get there.

To add insult to injury, Cassidy said that when they walked outside, he told her: ‘Yeah, you’re right. We should have rescheduled.’

‘At least the rock climbing part was fun but only because I enjoy rock climbing, honestly,’ she told Jam Press.

The video shows Cassidy making her way home from the date from hell, and at one point inside a subway station, she stopped to take off her boot and pour out the murky yellow water.

Things went further downhill when her train went past her stop, forcing her to walk the rest of the way home.

‘No man on Earth has ever made a woman this wet,’ she joked as she trudged through the rain, adding: ‘It’s moments like this when you really know if you’re a Sex and the City kind of New York girl or when you’re a Broad City kind of New York girl.’

Cassidy then proudly declared herself as the latter.

‘And we’re back on the couch, where I wanted to be the whole night anyway,’ she concluded.

In a follow-up video, Cassidy answered questions about her date, explaining that the hurricane caught her off guard.

‘When I left my apartment for the date it was barely raining,’ she said. ‘We didn’t even get a flash flood warning until I left.’

Many people asked if the guy would get a second date, to which she responded with an emphatic: ‘Absolutely not. Are you crazy?’

But don’t feel too bad. Cassidy went on to say that she had a great time the night before with a different man.

‘We haven’t spoken since the date,’ she admitted. ‘I don’t know if he’s seen the video.’

Cassidy’s NYC dating struggles seem to have resonated with many, as she claimed some people Venmoed her money and sent nice messages.

‘They say dating in New York is hard but wow,’ one person commented on the clip.

‘You have such a fun, positive kind of personality especially during a hurricane! Glad you made it home safely!’ someone else shared.

Several viewers also pointed out the red flags that they could see in the man from the failed date.

‘Nah first red flag is him not wanting to go somewhere that’s at least halfway for the both of y’all,’ one TikToker wrote.

‘Someone please get this girl a red flag guidebook,’ added another user, while someone else commented: ‘Girl you are a prize and he’s the water from your boot you know what I mean.’
