Labour Facebook group is riddled with Anti-Semitic abuse

A string of anti-Semitic slurs have been posted on a Labour Party discussion forum online, it emerged last night.

The Facebook users spread false conspiracy theories about Israel, compared Israel to Nazi Germany and even claimed Theresa May and her husband were Jewish.

The Prime Minister was accused of being ‘Israel’s puppet’ and one user said Israel was ‘keeping her in power’.

The Mail found a string of anti-Semitic messages on the Labour Party forum – which is an unofficial group for Labour members and supporters on the social networking site.

Other users challenged the claims, accused the posters of anti-Semitism and rejected the allegation that Israel was an ‘apartheid state’.

New rules which tighten the hard-Left’s grip on Labour were passed by party officials last night.

In a major victory for Jeremy Corbyn and his allies, leadership candidates will need nominations from just one in ten MPs to get on the ballot paper, rather than the 15 per cent of MPs currently required.

The rule change, which was approved by the ruling National Executive Committee (NEC), would virtually guarantee the presence of a socialist contender on the ballot in future elections.

It is expected to be approved by the Labour Party conference next week.

In another power grab by Mr Corbyn, officials approved a major review of party democracy, and more power for grassroots activists.

It prompted moderates to accuse the leadership of a ‘factional power grab’.

Richard Angell, of Blairite pressure group Progress, said: ‘Labour’s new establishment bounced the NEC in private sessions into a series of reforms that amount to a factional power grab and more roles for members in London and the South-East.’

In future, grassroots activists loyal to Mr Corbyn will get three more seats on the NEC. Trade unions – which overwhelmingly back the Labour leader – will see their NEC representation increased by one seat.

Last night the Community Security Trust, a charity which monitors anti-Semitic incidents and advises Jewish institutions and groups on security, condemned the posts as ‘disgusting’, and called on Labour to investigate whether those who posted the remarks were party members.

The comments were written in response to Mrs May describing herself as a ‘proud supporter of Israel’.

The page had a link to a story on the Jewish News website which reported Mrs May’s remarks at a Downing Street reception ahead of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year.

Mrs May praised Israel as a ‘remarkable country’ ahead of the centenary of the 1917 Balfour Declaration which announced British support for the creation of a Jewish State.

It sparked a string of disturbing responses suggesting Mrs May, the daughter of an Anglican vicar, is Jewish, that Israel is ‘satanic’, and Jews are ‘like Nazis’.

Lynne Gillard wrote: ‘Mayhem and her husband, the night before she moved into Downing Street, had a celebratory dinner with the Chief Rabbi. Not the Archbishop, the Chief Rabbi. Her and her husband are Jews.’

Kim Marie added: ‘You don’t get anywhere in British politics unless you do or you are Jewish. It is that bad here now. Weird, isn’t it, the Jews now acting like the Nazis?!’

John Anderson wrote: ‘Zionist satanic isreali (sic) regime is one of the most barbaric evil regimes in the world. They murder innocent Palestinians including children and torture and oppress them.’

Jacky Cox wrote: ‘She’s in a win-win situation, the Israeli government will keep her in power and her and her friends will make money selling arms.’

Facebook said it was ‘investigating the matter’.

Last night Labour’s ruling body passed new rules on disciplinary measures which officials said were designed to combat ‘anti-Semitism, racism and other forms of prejudice’ in the party.
