She has remained adamant that she and Matty Johnson had never spoken before before meeting on The Bachelor this year.
But thanks to a seemingly innocent slip of the tongue, fans have been left wondering whether Laura Byrne has been telling porky pies.
The comment in question occurred mid-way through an interview with The Project last Friday, after Laura was quizzed about whether she had ever spoken to Matty before going on the show.
Cat’s out of the bag? Laura Byrne may have accidentally revealed she knew Matty Johnson was The Bachelor before it was ever announced… after rumours emerged that the pair dated prior to the show
Laura dutifully confessed that she had laid eyes on Matty when they both visited the same sauna, before adding: ‘I was there with a friend and I was like, ‘I think that’s the guy from The Bachelor and that was all, there was no conversation.’
While seemingly innocent on its surface, Laura’s confession is riddled with inconsistencies, as Matty was only announced as being The Bachelor after contestants were in lock-down.
Indeed, according to a Bachelor insider, the girls had no idea that Matty was involved in the show until they first saw him at the mansion.

‘The contestants were in lock down when it was announced [that Matty was The Bachelor]. They didn’t have a clue it was him,’ the source claimed.
While Laura may have suffered an innocent slip-up, the effect of her words imply that she had indeed spoken to (and possibly dated) Matty prior to the show.
It comes after New Idea claimed that Laura and Matty had made a ‘secret pact’ that they would end up together before filming had even started.
Oops! While Laura may have suffered an innocent slip-up, the effect of her words imply that she had indeed spoken to (and possibly dated) Matty prior to the show
According to the magazine, the pair made an agreement that Laura would apply for The Bachelor and Matty would take her to the finale – with the duo both reaping the benefits of fame in the process.
While rumours have been rife that the pair had crossed paths before appearing on the show, the magazine claims that Matty and Laura were in the early stages of dating and wanted their relationship to progress.
‘Matty couldn’t pull out [of The Bachelor] because he was under contract and it stated that he wasn’t allowed to date in the lead up to the show but agreed it would be good for their future if they went along with it,’ a source allegedly told the publication.
‘Producers knew they had met before, but didn’t know the extent of the relationship.’
