Femail looks at the worst Trip Advisor hotel reviews

Booking a holiday comes with a considerable amount of stress over finding the perfect destination and hotel to match.

But some travellers are far unluckier than others, as the popular hotel review website TripAdvisor proves.

The worst reviews left by unhappy guests across Australia and worldwide range from break-ins, unusual faeces sightings and urine leaking from the ceiling.

One dissatisfied traveller rated one Australian establishment as ‘horrible’ and described it as ‘an abandoned hotel where drug addicts have set up camp’.

The reviewer, who shared images of a musty, yellow-coloured motel room, then expressed frustration at the extra $50 free because they had stayed on New Years Eve, despite it being a ‘despicable’ and ‘disgusting’ stay.

Another guest staying at a hotel in the UK was repulsed to find a piece of poo lodged inside the kettle.

‘Blood stained headboards that have clearly been up since the world war (the first one), rude staff, windows that won’t close, no hot water, broken furniture, dirty utensils, broken light fixings and actual poo in the kettle,’ the review read.

But it was a late-night disturbance which upset another hotel guest into leaving a lengthy one-star review on the travelling website.

The traveller was shaken up after realising an unwanted guest had tried to enter their hotel room – but was never caught because of faulty CCTV.

‘Upon check out the lady explained to us that they had CCTV but it wasn’t actually facing the doors so they couldn’t see who did it,’ the review read.

‘The whole incident had shaken us so much that we had to cut our holiday short.’

Several other Australian establishments were also given the thumbs down on Trip Advisor, with many guests warning future travellers to book elsewhere.

In June one guest was disgusted to find urine leaking from the ceiling during their stay, while another noticed their room was swamped with a foul odour which the hotel later confirmed as being mould.

‘Upon entering the hallway we were met with an overpowering smell of mould,’ the reviewer wrote.

‘It was revealed that the hotel has had a water problem and they are yet to replace the carpets. My partner was immediately effected and it was evident that we could not stay.’

And another guest who stayed with a colleague at a hotel shared their experience online after finding lacy lingerie still inside the room.

‘I had cockroaches in my room and dusty bedding. My colleague had lacy underwear left in her room and the a/c froze up and blew ice at her,’ the person wrote.

However most hotels given poor reviews were also brimming with happy, satisfied customers who appeared to have enjoyed their stay at each respective establishment.
