Searched launched for missing woman in Swanage

Mary Harper went missing as she enjoyed a stroll with her husband near Durlston Castle in Swanage, Dorset, on Tuesday

A major police search has been launched after a woman vanished during a coastal walk with her family.

Mary Harper, 56, went missing as she enjoyed a stroll with her husband and other relatives near Durlston Castle in Swanage, Dorset, on Tuesday. 

She disappeared after deciding to walk alone up an inland path, at around 11.45am and has not been heard from since.

Mrs Harper is described as blakc, 5ft 3ins tall, of medium build and has black hair.

She was wearing was wearing a blue jacket, black trousers, black boots and possibly a pink and white scarf. 

Mrs Harper does not the area and did not have her phone with her at the time of going missing.

Dorset Police has launched a major search and is being assisted by the National Police Air Service, coastguard and Dorset Search and Rescue. 

Chief Inspector Heather Dixey, of Dorset Police, said: ‘Mary does not know the Durlston area well and as the night is drawing in we are becoming very concerned for her. 

‘I would urge anyone who has seen Mary or a woman matching her description to please contact Dorset Police.
