ANKARA, Sept 21 (Reuters) – Here are news, reports and events that may affect Turkish financial markets on Thursday.
The lira stood at 3.5035 against the U.S. dollar at 0436 GMT, having weakened from 3.4757 at Wednesday’s close. It rose to 3.5193 in after hours trading on Wednesday, its weakest since Aug 21.
The yield on the benchmark 10-year bond was at 10.82 percent in spot trade at Wednesday’s close.
The main BIST 100 share index rose 0.38 percent to 105,322.67 points on Wednesday.
GLOBAL MARKETS
The U.S. dollar shone while Asian shares slipped on Thursday after the U.S. Federal Reserve announced a plan to start shrinking its balance sheet and signalled one more rate hike later this year.
PRESIDENT ERDOGAN
Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan is in New York for the 72nd United Nations General Assembly. He will meet with U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday. Erdogan will also attend a meeting of American Muslims and the Turkish community in the U.S.
ERDOGAN – PUTIN MEETING
Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said on Wednesday he will meet Russia’s President Vladimir Putin next week to discuss a plan agreed by their countries and Iran to reduce the fighting in Syria’s northwestern Idlib province.
IRAQI REFERENDUM
Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu held a trilateral meeting in New York with his counterparts from Iraq and Iran to evaluate regional developments. Turkey strongly opposes the Iraqi Kurdish independence vote due on Sept 25.
CUSTOMS MINISTER
Turkish Customs Minister Bulent Tufenkci will deliver a speech at a conference on global trade. (0630 GMT)
CONSUMER CONFIDENCE
Statistics Institute will announce the consumer confidence data for September. (0700 GMT)
