The Block’s Mitch Edwards and Mark McKie make a HUGE mistake in their kitchen renovation… so can you spot the problem?

Mitch Edwards and Mark McKie failed to impress the judges with their kitchen renovation on The Block this week.

The stylish granddads made a huge mistake with their pantry that judges Shaynna Blaze and Neale Whitaker couldn’t look past.

While most traditional pantries feature shelves in the kitchen or butler’s pantry, Mark and Mitch decided to install pantry drawers in the island bench.

The judges explained how the lack of storage in the kitchen could be a problem for buyers.

‘There’s a cooktop, there’s a dishwasher, there’s a sink, there’s an oven, there’s… no pantry at all,’ Shaynna Blaze said as she inspected the butler’s pantry.

‘No pantry! That’s crazy. So all your food storage here is either in the fridge or it’s in the drawers,’ Neale Whitaker added.

The feedback landed Mitch and Mark at the bottom of the leader board with 22.5 points.

Despite the criticism, both Mitch and Mark seemed thrilled with how their kitchen turned out and defended their decision to install pantry drawers in the island.

Mark explained during judging: ‘In a lot of modern living these days it’s actually more accessible so you’re not getting to the back of a cupboard.’
