Mel Schilling reveals the truth about the rumoured Married At First Sight ‘celebrity spinoff series’
Rumours have been circulating that Channel Nine is cooking up a spinoff series of Married At First Sight exclusively featuring celebrity participants.
But on Wednesday, the show’s relationship expert Mel Schilling shut down rumours the new season will feature stars walking down the aisle.
The 49-year-old told Yahoo Lifestyle: ‘The magic of MAFS is that we’re bringing two people together who don’t know anything about each other’s background.’

‘If you come face to face with a celebrity, you’re already going to have all these preconceived ideas about who they are, how they’re played out in the press and it’s not going to be an organic process.’
She continued: ‘And also, it would be an unfair match because one person would know loads about this one, while they’d know nothing about them. I don’t think it would work. It would be a different show.’
It comes after New Idea magazine recently claimed producers already have a list of celebrities they hope to cast on the rumoured new format.
The names include Richard Reid, Yvie Jones, Ash Williams, Tully Smyth, Harry T and Paulini Curuenavuli who have been ‘mentioned’ by casting directors.

A anonymous producer for Endemol told the magazine it was important to ‘change things up’ for the show.
‘If we want the show to keep going, and change things up,’ they told the publication.
The show will reportedly rival ratings juggernaut Celebrity Big Brother which airs on Channel Seven.
‘If you come face to face with a celebrity, you’re already going to have all these preconceived ideas about who they are, how they’re played out in the press and it’s not going to be an organic process,’ she said
The insider added that celebrities have been lining-up for a career boost due to the show’s popularity.
‘The truth is, the show has made some of the participants household names, and now some household names need a career boost,’ they said.
‘That’s the MAFS machine.’
