Melania Trump to take Wayne Newton to meet Prince Harry

Melania Trump is taking her first solo excursion as first lady on Saturday, as she heads to Toronto to lead the US delegation at the Invictus Games.

The FLOTUS, her office announced today, will be bringing six others with her, including Las Vegas personality Wayne Newton, a longtime buddy of the Trumps, and retired golf star Nancy Lopez.

Providing more star power will be the brainchild of the games himself, Prince Harry, who is expected to attend these games with girlfriend Meghan Markle at his side.

The games are a special competition for wounded veterans from British commonwealth nations and their allies, including the United States.

In July, the White House announced first lady Melania Trump would attend.

‘I was heartened by the great success of the inaugural Invictus Games that took place in London in 2015, and the second games in Orlando, Florida last year,’ the first lady said in a statement then.

‘In just two short years, the Invictus Games have allowed thousands of injured and wounded servicemen and women from many different countries to participate in adaptive sports competitions – something that should be lauded and supported worldwide,’ she continued.

‘I am honored by the opportunity to represent our country at this year’s games,’ the first lady added.

Melania Trump follows in the footsteps of Dr. Joe Biden and former first lady Michelle Obama.

Biden attended the first games in London, while both Biden and Obama traveled to the state-side games last year, with the first lady delivering remarks.

Melania Trump will be attending the opening ceremony, which is the likeliest place she’ll rub elbows with the prince and his actress girlfriend, who shoots her show Suits in the Canadian city.

She’s also set to attend a Team USA reception.

The games will continue for a week, but the first lady is only making a day trip.

She’ll also be joined by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs David Shulkin, the Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan,  Elizabeth Moore Aubin, a top US embassy official in Ottawa and a Gold Star mother, Karen Kelly, the White House said.

Next year the games are set to take place in Australia.
