A woman has creeped out TikTok with her viral video of an apartment building that features bizarre indoor balconies overlooking the main hallway.

Rachel, a medical student from Blacksburg, Virginia, was in the process of moving when she decided to share footage of the eerie design on her @rayyy.of_sunshine TikTok account.

‘This is the weirdest apartment complex I’ve ever seen,’ she captioned the clip, which has been viewed more than 3.6 million times.

The windowless hallway has a total of ten balconies – five on each side – that are located above the entryway doors and face each other.

The layout looks like something out of a scary movie, and Rachel amped up the creepiness by setting the video to a sound effect from the film The Amityville Horror.

While she said her apartment itself is ‘regular’ – albeit a little ‘outdated’ – she was baffled by the unconventional balcony overlooking the inside of the building.

‘I thought they were so weird and unique,’ she told Jam Press. ‘The building is really old, so it was just kind of eerie, reminding me of a liminal space.’

Rachel’s post has racked up more than 400,000 likes and nearly 10,000 comments, with many viewers agreeing with her assessment that it’s ‘so weird.’

Who would have thought? Rachel found out that the balconies were allegedly created to ensure the building meets the fire code because some of the apartments don't have windows

‘Whose idea was it to put the damn balconies inside?’ one person asked, while another admitted: ‘This makes me uncomfy.’

‘Every door will lead you inside, never outside. Horror movie vibe,’ someone else responded to the clip.

One TikToker tried to see the benefits, saying ‘it could be cool when you wanna argue with your neighbors.’

Others said they got ‘prison vibes’ and called the building a ‘fancy jail.’

Obviously, people also wanted to know why the balconies were inside, and Rachel later shared a follow-up video explaining why they exist.

According to the TikToker, some of the apartments don’t have any windows, which doesn’t meet the fire code.

‘But if they have a balcony, then it’s fine,’ she deduced, ‘because then if there’s a fire, they can jump from the balcony.’
