A Melbourne dad who had lost his job during the Covid-19 pandemic won Australia’s third biggest lottery prize in history when the $80 million Powerball prize went off in August.
‘I lost my job during one of the many lockdowns here in Melbourne. We had only just bought a home and didn’t see it coming,’ he told The Lott.
‘I am certainly keen to pay off the mortgage and the other bills we have to begin with,’ he stated.
‘We’re going to set our kids up for life. That will be an incredible thing to be able to do. There’s so much we will be able to do with this prize. It will change so many people’s lives!’

They took home $20,852,900.31 after their PowerHit entry also scored division two 19 times.

‘I want to help my parents and siblings. I want to buy a house for our young family. It’s going to make a world of difference.’
Last year, a total of $3.33billion in prize money was claimed with over 111.6 million winners from Australian Lottery draws.
