Yumi Stynes splits from husband Martin Bendeler, breaks down on live radio

TV and radio presenter Yumi Stynes has separated from her second husband and the father of two of her children, Martin Bendeler, after nine years of marriage.

The mother of four, 46, broke down in tears live on KIIS FM’s 3pm Pick-Up on Tuesday as she shared heartbreaking details of the couple’s split.

Yumi, who has moved out of the marital home and into her own apartment, said it was daunting having to start her life over again as a single mother for a second time.

While she did not reveal why they broke up, things appear to be acrimonious because she claims her ex changed the locks to their house.

The former Channel [V] host married Martin in 2012 and they welcomed a daughter and a son together.

She was previously married to musician Ben Ely, with whom she shares two older children, from 2000 to 2008.

‘I’m going through a separation at the moment and there’s kids involved and my ex is involved I don’t want to say anything that hurts these people,’ she began through tears.

‘I have had to find an apartment, had to move my stuff, all my crap is in boxes and bags… I had to change my address, throw out the keys that don’t work anymore,’ she said.

The mother-of-four said it’s been an intense few weeks and said she is still coming to terms with having to start her life over again as a single mother.

'I have had to find an apartment, had to move my stuff, all my c**p is in boxes and bags... I had to change my address, throw out the keys that don't work anymore,' she said

‘It’s been a lot. I spent the weekend moving and I feel like I’m starting my new life now as a single mum. Here I am again,’ she said.

She went on to say that she’s ‘not yet ready’ to divulge more details of their shock split, but admitted she thinks she’ll be going through the breakup process for another year yet.

‘I have hundreds and thousands of words to say but I don’t think I’m ready yet,’ she said.

‘Breakups aren’t over quickly, I’ll probably be in this process for another year… I probably will be up and down in the future,’ she added about her potential moods in the next few months.

Her radio co-star Kate Langbroek consoled Yumi and had nothing but kind words for her, praising her for her ‘strength’ and ‘courage’.

‘Your strength is second to none and I’ve been in awe of you through this… It’s so courageous to make a change. It’s bloody hard and courageous,’ Kate sweetly said.

Yumi and Martin married in 2012, after Yumi proposed to him on February 29, which was a leap day – traditionally, women can propose marriage to men on a leap day.

The former Studio 10 host has two children with Martin, daughter Mercy, six, and a five-year-old son she has nicknamed Man Baby – Yumi has not revealed the child’s name publicly as yet.

She also has two teenage children, Anouk, 19, Dee Dee, 17, with former partner, Regurgitator musician Ben Ely, 51.

Last year, Yumi penned a post for the ABC about how to stay friends with an ex as she spoke about her relationship with Ben.

She encouraged people to ‘take time apart when it first happens, encourage mutual respect and redraw the boundaries of your relationship’.

‘Breaking up “well” isn’t something you think about when you’re in the flush of new love,’ she wrote.

‘And when it all falls apart, staying friendly isn’t necessary — unless you share something vital, like a business, all your friends, a creative project or, in our case, children.’
