Today host Karl Stefanovic says he’s going to get ‘proper lashed’ on Melbourne Cup day – as Ally Langdon reveals she’s planning to ‘cut loose’


The Melbourne Cup is the race that stops the nation.

And Today co-hosts Karl Stefanovic and Allison Langdon have revealed they plan to celebrate with plenty of booze.

Karl, 47, told viewers on Tuesday morning he planned to get ‘proper lashed’, while Allison, 42, said she was going to ‘cut loose’.

Karl said: ‘Enjoy your Melbourne Cup days, folks, and as we always say on this show, drink responsibility and don’t come to work the next day drunk.’

He was of course referencing the time he showed up to work sloshed the morning after the 2009 Logie Awards.

‘Are you really going to follow your advice?’ Ally asked.

‘No, I’m going to have a proper lash today,’ he joked, to which his co-anchor replied: ‘I guess I’m going to have to do all the work tomorrow.’

During an interview on The Kyle and Jackie O Show later on Tuesday, Ally revealed she had similar plans for the Melbourne Cup.

‘I’m going to cut loose this afternoon and Karl can do all the work tomorrow,’ she told co-hosts Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O Henderson.

Flemington Racecourse will welcome up to 10,000 punters for the iconic event.

Reigning champion Twilight Payment is one of only three international runners this year, along with Spanish Mission and English colt Sir Lucan.

Last year’s winner Twilight Payment will be ridden again by Jye McNeil.

Horse Incentivise goes into the ‘race that stops a nation’ as the $2.80 shortest-priced favourite in 90 years, since Phar Lap in 1930 who paid $1.73 for the win.
