Brownlow Medal 2017: AFL legend Dane Swan mocks dull vote

Former AFL star Dane Swan has added life to a monotonous and unnecessarily dragged out sporting experience, applying his own brand of commentary through social media.

Swan has taken over Sportsbet’s Twitter account for the Brownlow Medal ceremony on Monday evening, ruthlessly mocking and taunting some of the biggest names in the game.

The Collingwood legend made lewd jokes, poked fun at the hosts and recommended players hide beers under the table for when the bar closes.

‘Lads, Pro-tip from a veteran: Hoard some beers under your table now, because when the count starts the bar closes. Thank me later,’ Swan tweeted.

The Brownlow Medal is the AFL’s night of nights where the finest player through the regular season is crowned the sport’s best and fairest. The evening tracks the votes of each game of every round through the season.

With Dustin Martin a sure-thing to claim the award in a potential record tally, Aussie Rules’ biggest event was hardly captivating… until Swan’s Twitter takeover.

Swan, a Brownlow winner himself in 2011, had a no-holds-barred approach to the promotion for the sports betting company, taking out past and current stars, hosts and WAGs.

‘Erm, any danger we can start feeding Fev a few Crownies? This red carpet is boring the s*** out of me,’ Swan said in reference to Brendan Fevola who returned to hosting for the first time since his infamous drunken performance in 2009.

‘Just once wanna hear Bruce open with — ‘Well wasn’t that season ordinary’,’ Swan jibed at the rambunctiousness of legendary Channel Seven commentator Bruce McAvaney.

Swan, who also starred on Channel Ten’s I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here, even took aim at AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan, who was in charge of reading out the votes for each match.

He agreed with the sentiment the Brownlow Medal could only be heading to one man, and that it would take another legendary sports figure to beat him.

‘The only person who could beat Dusty for me tonight is Winx,’ Swan said, referencing the champion Australian horse.
