Woolworths is gifting free hampers to loyal customers just in time for Christmas – but their method of delivery is making many think it’s a scam.

A suspicious shopper took to Facebook asking others if they had been contacted by the supermarket giant, after a representative cold called her asking if she would be happy to receive a festive gift to thank her for being a Woolworths Rewards member.

While dozens initially refused to share their details, many said they confirmed with the store’s head office that a select number of loyalty card holders would be getting a hamper this year.

‘How lovely, I’ve never heard of that before,’ one woman replied.

Another added: ‘Wow that’s awesome, I’d love to receive one. Could really use a pick me up.’

It’s not clear what the hampers contain, but delighted shoppers have branded it ‘a lovely thing’ for the brand to do after another difficult year of lockdown and Covid-forced border closures for millions of Australians.

Others said they were stunned by a surprise delivery last November.

One woman said an elaborate Woolies hamper ‘just showed up in the post’ one day.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Woolworths for clarification.

It comes after a supermarket employee sent shoppers into a tailspin by revealing a little-known feature about supermarket trolleys that could save you time at the checkout.

Sydney cashier Liam Kirley shared a TikTok video showing how smaller trolleys can fit perfectly under staffed cash registers at the end of the checkout.

The feature allows customers to skip the bagging process and pop the buys straight back into the trolley.

‘If you want to skip bagging and you have a smaller trolley, these trolleys sit into our registers just like that – so you can easily place items into the trolley,’ Liam said in the clip.

But there’s a catch – the special feature is only suitable for staffed cash registers, not self-serve checkouts.

The now-viral video, which has been viewed more than 28,000 times, sparked a wave of excitement online.
