Australians believe in demons, angels, ghosts and aliens

More than a third of Australians claim demons walk the earth, ghosts control people, and aliens have made contact with humans.

According to a survey released by Essential Report on Tuesday, a substantial percentage of Australians believed there was more to the world than what appeared.

From 1075 survey respondents, 39 per cent believed angels and demons not only existed, but were ‘active in the world’.

More than a third of the respondents also believed ghosts existed and ‘had the power to influence people’.

The survey gave respondents five different answers from which they could choose, including strongly believe, somewhat believe, somewhat disbelieve, strongly disbelieve and not sure.

Ten per cent of respondents strongly believed extra-terrestrials, or aliens, visited the earth, while an additional 24 per cent somewhat believed in their existence and contact with people.

In keeping with its theological theme, the survey asked people to respond to the proposition: ‘The story of creation in the book of Genesis is a true account of the first man and woman’.

While 34 per cent agreed, there were far more who didn’t, with 44 per cent in disagreement.

The results appeared to split down the middle when it came to the existence of heaven and hell.

There were 40 per cent who believed both heaven and hell existed as destinations after life, and 42 per cent who didn’t.

The survey also asked respondents to give their opinion on global warming, which has been slammed as a conspiracy theory by some.

Twenty-one per cent of respondents believed global warming was a ‘hoax perpetrated by scientists’, with nine per cent of them strongly believing the conspiracy theory.

Meanwhile, 16 per cent believed the vibrations from wind farms caused long term health damage, and 14 per cent were adamant vaccines caused autism.
