Tourist drives with monkeys on road trip in China

  • Mr Zhao was on a self-drive tour with his friend in southwestern China
  • Three monkeys got in his rental car after he forgot to close the back door
  • The man had to carry on his journey with the stubborn animals onboard
  • After finishing all the bananas Mr Zhao had brought, the primates left the car

A tourist in China had to share part of his road trip with three wild monkeys after they sneaked into his rental car and refused to leave.

Mobile phone footage, taken by a passenger, shows at least two wild monkeys sitting at the back of Mr Zhao’s car as his friend drove on road in China’s Yunnan Province.

After failing to remove them from his vehicle, Mr Zhao had to call the car rental company for advice on how to invite primates to leave.

Three monkeys were spotted having bananas on Mr Zhao’s rental car on September 16

The incident happened on September 16, according to People’s Daily Online. The newspaper posted a video of the event on its Facebook two days ago.

Mr Zhao, who had rented a car for a self-drive tour with his friend in Kunming, apparently left the car doors open when they stopped over for a quick lunch.

When they returned to the car, they found three monkeys eating their bananas on the backseat.

The monkeys refused to leave no matter how hard Mr Zhao and his friend tried.

Video clip shows two of the monkeys relaxing while Mr Zhao called the customer service of the car rental company.

The agent suggested the man should ‘politely asked the monkeys to leave’.

Mr Zhao replied: ‘I treated them really well. I gave them food, I talked to them, I even tried to seduce them. But they won’t leave.’

He told the reporter that he believed the monkeys were of one family.

‘There were two adult monkeys and one baby monkey,’ he said.

Mr Zhao tried again 10 minutes after by knocking the window.

The primates finally left without any hesitation.

Mr Zhao checked and found out the monkeys had already finished the bananas.

The incident had not been reported to local policemen.
