BBC’s new adaptation of Around The World in 80 Days is set to be the star of the Christmas TV schedule.

And new behind-the-scene photos show leading man David Tennant on set as the globe-trotting adventurer Phileas Fogg. The project also marks the first time David has worked with his eldest son Ty, 19.

A new photo shows the father and son posing with their arms wrapped around one another after shooting a scene together in Bucharest.

Ty appears as a ‘gang leader’ according to the cast list, with David admitting in an interview this week that the tough guy role led to some interesting ‘family dynamics’ on set.

‘We’d never acted together until this so it was a first for us as a family. He’s been doing lots of other exciting things but in this he was playing a bit of a thug,’ David told BT.com.

‘In episode eight he had to try to take down Fogg in a New York warehouse so there were lots of family dynamics being played out that day! It was a great experience as I’ve been really looking forward to working with him.’

Acting is in the genes: Ty is the eldest child of David and his wife Georgia Moffett. Georgia gave birth to Ty when she was 17, and David adopted him after he and Georgia married in 2011

‘This project is such a challenging and ambitious series to put together so it has required a huge amount of support on all fronts to pull it off.

‘We couldn’t have achieved it without our wonderful production team, our stellar cast, our super supportive broadcasters and financiers, the inventiveness of our directors and the ingenuity of our wonderful writing team led by Ashley Pharoah.’
