All-woman league says national anthem is ‘far too sacred’

The all-women tackle football league formerly known as the Lingerie Football League is making it known on Wednesday that their players won’t stand for protesting the flag.

The Legends Football League put out a statement on both YouTube and Instagram saying that their players would stand during the national anthem, unlike some of their male counterparts in the National Football League.

‘The LFL recognizes everyone’s First Amendment right to protest, but our nation’s flag and anthem are far too sacred,’ the league said.

‘Too many fellow Americans have made the ultimate sacrifice, so that our flag and anthem continue in all its majesty.’

The league produced a YouTube clip showing a number of players standing at attention while the national anthem was playing in the background.

The LFL promised to ‘stand in salute’ of the flag.

‘It symbolizes all the blood, sweat, and tears that have been shed so that we as Americans can raise our flag across our nation,’ the narrator of the video says.

‘The LFL salutes all those who make this the greatest country in the world.

‘We stand in salute of our flag.’

President Donald Trump on Wednesday once again commented on the raging controversy.

The Legends Football League put out a statement on both YouTube and Instagram saying that their players would stand during the national anthem, unlike some of their male counterparts in the National Football League

¿The LFL recognizes everyone's First Amendment right to protest, but our nation's flag and anthem are far too sacred,¿ the league said

‘The LFL recognizes everyone’s First Amendment right to protest, but our nation’s flag and anthem are far too sacred,’ the league said

‘In my opinion, the NFL has to change, or you know what’s gonna happen? Their business is gonna go to hell. Okay?’ Trump said on Wednesday.

‘We have to respect our national anthem, we have to respect our country, and they’re not respecting our country.

‘And most importantly, the fans agree with me – I mean largely the fans agree, but we have to show total respect for our national anthem for our flag, for our country, we have to do it.

‘And you can, there are plenty of places, and there are plenty of – personally when they’re protesting during the football game. I think they can find better places, but they cannot do it during the national anthem.’

Trump ramped up his fight with the NFL on Tuesday, calling on the league to ban players from kneeling in protest at games while the national anthem is played.

‘The NFL has all sorts of rules and regulations. The only way out for them is to set a rule that you can’t kneel during our National Anthem!’ Trump wrote on Twitter.

For the fifth straight day the president denounced the symbolic gesture, which has been adopted by some black players in the last year to protest against racial disparities in the criminal justice system.

An NFL spokesman did not respond to requests for comment.
