Trump: I have ‘a nice relationship’ with Schumer & Pelosi

President Donald Trump is building on his budding partnership with Democratic leaders in Congress, including New York pal Chuck Schumer, the senior senator from the Empire State.

Once labeled a ‘clown,’ by Trump, ‘Cryin Chuck’ is now not so bad these days in the president’s book. Neither is leading House Democrat Nancy Pelosi.

‘I have a nice relationship with them,’ Trump said Wednesday in an interview with Fox & Friends contributor Pete Hegseth.

It was Schumer and Pelosi that Trump turned to when he needed to cut a deal for disaster relief funding that temporarily raised the debt ceiling and funded the government.

They’ve since been upgraded to ‘Chuck and Nancy’ in his remarks.

Pelosi says they were looking to ‘build some trust and confidence’ in Trump.

Schumer was caught on a hot mic last week boasting: ‘He likes us. He likes me, anyway.’

The fellow New Yorker said he told Trump that he’d be ‘boxed’ in if he spurns Democrats entirely. ‘He gets that,’ Schumer said.

Asked about his new legislative partners at his tax reform speech on Wednesday and whether he can trust them, Trump said, ‘It’s not a question of trust.

‘First of all, you know, I have a nice relationship with them,’ the president asserted. ‘It’s not really trust. It’s if we can do a great health care bill, bipartisan, I’m OK with that.’

Trump suggested with the comment to Fox & Friends, which aired on the next day’s program, that he’s open to working with Democrats now on a health reform bill, following the GOP’s failure to repeal and replace Obamacare by the end of the fiscal year.

The president claimed his party has the votes currently to toss out the law,  ‘but we don’t have the time, because it’s Friday. I mean literally Friday, it ends, at a certain time on Friday.

‘So we’ll bring it into a few months from now. We’ll vote it. It’s block grants. It’s going to be great health care. In the meantime, I have that little period of time, I’ll negotiate with the Democrats if we can come up with a for fantastic health care bill, that’s OK with me. Good for both parties. Bipartisan,’ Trump said.
