Manchester City star Sergio Aguero has confirmed he sustained a broken rib after his taxi driver took a ‘wrong turn’ and crashed into a pole in the centre of Amsterdam on Thursday night.
The Argentine tweeted to thank his fans for the messages of support as well as the staff at the VU University Medical Amsterdam, who treated him and his friend following the incident.
He also posted a photo of himself back in Manchester City kit, saying that while the injury hurts, he was saved from something far more serious because he was wearing a seat belt.

Aguero wrote: ‘I’m home in Manchester after an exam by club Drs. It’s a broken rib. Hurts, but I’m fine, fully focused on recovery. Thank you all!
‘I’d like to thank the staff of the VU University Medical Amsterdam for their care and support. Hats off to all their team.
‘The taxi I was riding made a wrong turn and crashed against a pole. It was a very heavy slam but seatbelts prevented it from being worse.’

Aguero, who was in Holland to attend a concert of Colombian singer-songwriter Maluma, was riding in a taxi back to the airport when the vehicle crashed into a pole.
There was, however, no indication that the 29-year-old had travelled to Holland without the club’s permission, with manager Pep Guardiola stating he had no problem with his players doing as they wish on their days off.
He said: ‘I think days off are to be happy. I want the players to be happy. Always I am a manager who doesn’t like to train every day.
‘I think the players have to rest mentally and physically. They can enjoy their lives. I want my players to have fun. If they decide to go there, they decide to go there. It is okay for me.’
The Manchester City star may not be available until the turn of the year, meaning he will also miss Argentina’s crucial World Cup qualifying matches against Peru and Ecuador next month.
