David Beckham has moaned that wife Victoria has eaten the same dish for 25 years – grilled fish and steamed vegetables.

And while the sportsman likes to get experimental in the kitchen and sample a wide variety of food, he lamented that the health fanatic will ‘rarely deviate’ from her set menu.

Footballer David, 46, revealed that Spice Girl Victoria, 47, has only once tried other food – while pregnant with daughter Harper, 10.

Meanwhile, the sports star celebrated the Lunar New Year by cooking up a Chinese dish of sweet and sour Mandarin fish – although it seems unlikely that his wife will indulge given the fish was fried and the vegetables weren’t steamed.

Discussing Victoria’s very specific eating habits on the River Cafe Table 4 podcast, David explained: ‘I get quite emotional about food and wine, when I’m eating something great I want everyone to try it.

‘Unfortunately I’m married to someone that has eaten the same thing for the last 25 years. Since I met her she only eats grilled fish, steamed vegetables, she will very rarely deviate from that.’

‘The only time she’s probably ever shared something that’s been on my plate was actually when she was pregnant with Harper and it was the most amazing thing.

‘It was one of my favourite evenings. I can’t remember what it was but I know she’s not eaten it since.’

Victoria previously admitted that she won’t eat food cooked in oil, butter or sauces, and she doesn’t eat red meat or dairy.

Speaking to the same River Cafés Table 4 podcast, the designer said: ‘To most restaurants I’m probably their worst nightmare. I love some steamed vegetables, some balsamic vinegar and then to season myself.

‘I like things to be cooked in a very simple way. I don’t like oils or butters or sauces. This is where I sound even more boring in the food department.’

Victoria also confessed her comfort food was a piece of whole grain toast with salt on it and on her birthday she celebrates with a fruit cake.

She said: ‘I like whole grain toast with salt on it. It’s that carbohydrate that makes you feel comforted and I love salt.’

Meanwhile, David took to Instagram on Tuesday morning to share a video of himself experimenting in the kitchen.

The famous footballer opened his cooking video saying: ‘xīn nián kuài lè,’ which is Mandarin for Happy Lunar New Year.

After rustling up sweet and sour Mandarin fish and taking a bite, he continued in Mandarin, telling his fans: ‘May you have prosperity every year. Forge ahead with the vigour and vitality of the tiger’

David wrote alongside the video: ‘Learnt a new dish to celebrate Lunar New Year … Sweet and sour Mandarin Fish.

‘Must say I’m quite proud of how it turned out. Thanks for letting me use your kitchen @gordongram #LunarNewYear.’
