Cathair Curran, 24, from Loughmacrory, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland, who goes by Kegs on social media has tried everything to hide his hair loss. In November, he was fitted with a temporary hair system from Novo Cabelo, pictured, but took it off earlier this month in order to go through a hair transplant. In order for his hair to take, he had to swear off sex and alcohol for a month
Cahtair, who goes by Kegs on his social media accounts, has always suffered with an extreme widow’s peak, but then started losing his hair at the age of just 19.
He became a viral sensation when he grew out his locks and styled his hair forwards using straighteners in a bid to conceal his self-professed ‘really big’ forehead.
But Kegs started to suffer further hair loss, which he believes was caused from over-styling it, and started using root touch-up spray to cover his balding head.
This meant the now 24-year-old lived in fear of the rain in case his spray-on locks were washed away.
In the past, Kegs would style his hair in order to hide his widow’s peak. However, he had to stop when his regular styling cause him to lose even more hair
The TikTok creator also used spray-on hair, which meant he spent years fearing the rain would ruin his hairdo
The influencer was then approached by hair replacement system company Novo Cabelo and offered a life-changing hair piece, which he wore since November last year.
But after deciding to make a move to Bali, he recently plucked up the courage to go for a more permanent solution with a hair transplant.
The process can cost £2,000, however,
In new videos, Kegs reveals the impressive process he underwent in the pursuit of a perfect hairline with Now Hair Time.
The social media personality is self-conscious about his extreme widow’s peak, which he started developing aged 19
Clips document his progress from spray cover-up attempts to the treatment he received in Turkey earlier this month.
On TikTok, Kegs now has more than 108,700 followers and claims to inspire other young blokes to seek help for their premature baldness.
Kegs said: ‘For the first 30 days [after the transplant] you’re not allowed to drink alcohol, smoke, exercise, go in the pool or sea or have sex.’
‘I’ve done three things in the past – the spray paint, a hair system then the hair transplant.
‘It’ll be the first time in my life I can style my real hair nicely.’
Kegs gained notoriety online thanks to his hair styling hacks, which worked a treat to hide his balding scalp
After sporting a hair system for months, Kegs decided to go through a hair transplant. They usually cost £2,000, but he got his for free
Kegs was bullied in secondary school for what he believed was a ‘big forehead’ and dedicated hours to spraying root touch-up to cover his baldness.
He soon started a TikTok account to help other men who were blighted by thinning hair and showed off his spraying technique, though he admits it had its downfalls.
Kegs said: ‘I always had a really big forehead and never really noticed it when I was a kid, but then at first year in secondary school I started getting picked on.
‘I was self-conscious about it and I grew my hair really long. I always tried to grow my hair out to cover my big forehead.
Kegs, pictured upon seeing his newly transplanted barnet, has had to forgo sex and alcohol for a month
The TikToker said the hair transplant procedure has been painless and is now waiting for his hair to grow
‘Because I was starting so young, at 13 I was using loads of products and hair straighteners and I damaged my hair.
‘It started to fall out when I was in my late teens, I lost a lot more hair earlier than I should have.
‘I remember seeing a girl on Instagram using root spray to cover her bald patches because she had alopecia.
‘I tried it one time and that’s when I started spraying my receding hairline.
‘It took ages, I had to shower every day and spend 15 minutes spraying it.
‘You have to use products to make sure it’s covering everywhere and you’d get really self-conscious if it was raining.
‘If I was going to the beach or the pool, I wouldn’t be able to do it.
‘I started off with that and I was always really self-conscious with it, but I started doing a lot of work on myself and learnt to accept it. I posted on TikTok and then it went viral.
‘Loads of different guys messaged me and would come up to me in public places and show me their hair where they’d be using the spray.’
After enjoying increasing online fame, Keg was approached by hair replacement company Novo Cabelo, who offered him a hair system that turned his scarce hairline into thick tresses.
Kegs said: ‘Loads of hair system companies then reached out to me. It’s like a wig that you stick on your head.
‘Then I saw the guy from Novo Cabelo and I agreed to do a collaboration to try the hair system in November [2021].
‘It gave me so much confidence. It was like a new full head of hair. It was amazing. I absolutely loved it.
‘It lasted two to three months. You have to take it off every 10 days to re-bond it.
Growing up, Kegs always had a large forehead, left, and a widow’s peak that grew even larger over time, right
‘I really recommend the hair system. It’s just with the hair system, whenever you sweat or get hot, it can be quite itchy.’
After making the decision to up-sticks to Bali, Kegs decided he needed a more permanent solution.
Keg said: ‘If I was living in Bali, it would be hard for me to get new hair systems every couple of months so I felt I needed something more permanent.
‘I then got offered a collab with a hair transplant company in Turkey.
‘I was meant to move to Bali [Friday, Feb 4] and the company messaged me on the Monday before to see if I’d go to Turkey.’
Kegs then decided to push back his relocation to Bali in order to visit Now Hair Time for the luxury hair transplant experience.
Kegs said: ‘When you arrive there, they pick you up in this unbelievable car, proper pimped out, and drive you to your five-star hotel.
‘They walk you about the place, get a free breakfast and you get your blood taken. Then when you go in, they give you a juice, they interview you and talk to you, they tell you the whole process then draw on the new hairline.
‘They shaved off all of my hair, which I was actually scared of as I was always self-conscious about having a big head.
‘Then you go into the surgery, which lasts about six hours.
‘The first thing they do is put anaesthetic in your head which is loads of injections. They inject between 20 to 30 times. It was a lot.
‘Then after that they removed around 4,500 grafts from the back of my head.
‘They put the grafts on to a tray then they go to the front of your head and put loads of holes in the front of your head.
‘Two doctors lift the grafts and implant it into the hole.
‘It’s pain free, it was just the anaesthetic I had pain during. You’re awake the whole time but I think I dozed off a few times, which you’re allowed to do.’
Now, Kegs is waiting for the wounds to heal as he prepares for his new start – admitting he feels more confident than ever about his future new ‘do.
Kegs said: ‘For the first two months all of the implanted hair will fall out, then it needs to regrow.
‘You start noticing the new hair growth at around three months but they said it can take a year to 18 months for it to fully grow out.
‘The hair transplant operation can be around £2,000 usually but I got this as a collaboration [it was gifted].
‘The hair transplant is making me feel amazing and it’s a lot easier [than the hair system].
‘I never had a good hairline before and for the first time in my life, I’ll be able to rock new hairstyles like a buzz cut.’
Kegs, who had his operation in Turkey earlier this month, left, is currently waiting for the hair to take, right
