Austin Butler gave his first look as Elvis Presley in Baz Luhrmann’s highly-anticipated musical drama, chronicling the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll’s rise to stardom, in new trailer alongside Tom Hanks as his larger-than-life manager.
While the 30-year-old Once Upon a Time… In Hollywood star proved to be a dead ringer for the Burning Love hitmaker while performing some of the late legend’s iconic dance moves, Hanks, 65, narrated the preview.
‘There are some who make me out to be the villain of this here story,’ the Oscar-winning actor, who portrays talent manager Colonel Tom Parker, ominously said as he spots his future client performing to a packed crowd.

He continued: ‘Are you born with destiny? Or does it just come knocking at your door? At that moment I watched that skinny boy transform into a superhero. He was my destiny.’
The teaser begins with Elvis looking nervous as he took the stage as he gets heckled by an audience member, who tells him to ‘get a haircut’ causing everyone to laugh.
Unfazed by the taunt, the performer, who sported a pink and black jumpsuit, began shaking his hips and crooning, which left the crowd stunned.

Speaking to a young Presley, Parker approaches the icon-to-be with an offer to ‘promote’ him, if he’s ‘ready to fly’ as they ride a ferris wheel together.
‘I’m ready, ready to fly.’ Presley responds, before flashing to the future of the intense press attention he faced for his promiscuous dance moves in the Fifties.
He seemingly becomes an overnight sensation after making his first television appearance, but becoming a public figure does not come without criticism.

His wife Priscilla tries to ease his nerves by timing him: ‘The way you sing is God-given. So there can’t be nothing wrong with it.’
Later, Presley can also be seen battling trying to navigate his career in the wake of the assassinations of John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King Jr and Malcolm X.

He gets in a disagreement with Parker, who says the tragedies have ‘nothing’ to do with them.
‘It has everything to do with us,’ fires back his client, who ended up writing the song If I Can Dream in response to the devastating killings, which deeply affected him.
Later, at 40, he voices his fear of being 40 and nobody remembering him.

‘I need to get back to who I really am. This could all be over in a flash,’ he said of wanting to return to singing gospel music.
Elvis will be released in theaters this summer on date June 24, 2022.

Speaking to Daily Mail Australia, the 59-year-old said he was very impressed with Butler’s portrayal of the legendary singer and feels like his performance will put him on the map.
‘I’m not going to make Austin anything,’ he said when asked if the film would turn him into a mega star.
‘Austin is going to make himself a superstar, he is phenomenal in the movie.’
‘I don’t usually say anything about the performances in my movies but he is phenomenal.’
Earlier in the month, the director took to Twitter to unveil the brief sneak peek, which offered the first, brief glimpse of Butler in the role.
While the sneak peek didn’t offer a look at Butler’s face, the actor was seen sporting some of Elvis’ iconic looks throughout the years.
