‘Worst penalty ever taken’: Neymar produces one of most horrendous penalties you will see all season

‘Worst penalty ever taken’: Fans react as Neymar produces one of most horrendous spot kicks you will see all season as woeful Paris Saint-Germain are outclassed by Nantes and suffer shock defeat

  • Paris Saint-Germain suffered a 3-1 defeat away to Nantes in Ligue 1 on Saturday
  • The Parisians were given a penalty only for Neymar to produce a tepid finish
  • Mauricio Pochettino’s side were outclassed and were 3-0 down at half-time

Brazilian forward Neymar produced one of the worst penalties you’re likely to see this season, after Paris Saint-Germain slumped to a shock 3-1 defeat by Nantes on Saturday.

The Parisians went into the clash high in confidence on the back of their 1-0 victory over Real Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Instead, the French giants remarkably found themselves 3-0 down at half-time in the Ligue 1 match with goals from Randal Kolo Muani, Quentin Merlin and Ludovic Blas securing the victory for the hosts at the Beaujoire Stadium.

Neymar looks to the heavens after his tame penalty was easily saved in the 3-1 loss to Nantes

Neymar netted on 47 minutes as PSG looked to produce a comeback, but minutes later the Brazilian had the chance to put the visitors to within one goal of drawing level.

He took penalty-taking responsibilities on the back of Lionel Messi’s miss in mid-week against Los Blancos at the Parc des Princes.

The 30-year-old produced a typically showy and stuttery run-up before hitting a tame shot that it looked as though he was passing it straight to Nantes goalkeeper Alban Lafont, who had a stunning performance.

His effort was disastrous, and fans were quick to react on Twitter following the save.

One fan tweeted saying: ‘And they wonder why Mbappe is tryna leave. These man are not serious [with three laughing emojis].’

Another believed Neymar should have found a corner and ‘smashed it’. Saying: ‘Modern arrogant penalty. Trying to look cool, make the keep look silly and try and roll it in…it’s pathetic.’

Whilst another even suggested the goalkeeper had enough time to dive the other way and get up and save it. ‘Man could have dived the other way and still would have had time to get to the right position and save it.’

Panenka’s and other ‘clever’ penalties look great when they hit the back of the net, but when they don’t go in, they certainly do make you look like a fool.

Given both Messi and Neymar have both missed from the spot in less than a week, it is likely the pressure will now be down to Kylian Mbappe should PSG be awarded another penalty in the near future.
