The four female stars of ‘Sex and the City’ have spent the past 20 years shooting down rumors of a feuds and tension among the cast, but it seems that one actresses is done playing that game.
Kim Cattrall sat down with Piers Morgan for a taping of his iTV show Life Stories last night, and an audience member tells DailyMail.com that the actress denied having shut down production of a third ‘Sex and the City’ movie with her over-the-top demands.
DailyMailTV revealed last week that Cattrall had wanted the studio behind the franchise, Warner Bros., to produce other films she had in development in order to sign on to the project.
Sarah Jessica Parker confirmed later that same day that the studio was forced to cancel production just a few weeks before principal photography was set to begin, saying she was ‘disappointed’ by the news.
That move did not sit well with Cattrall however, who said she has been saying no to the project for the past year, and never once suggested she might board the film.
‘And now, now at this very moment it’s quite extraordinary to get any kind of negative press about something that I’ve been saying for almost a year of “no” that I’m demanding or a diva, said Cattrall.
‘And this is really where I take to task the people from “Sex And The City” and specifically Sarah Jessica Parker in that I think she could have been nicer.’
Kim then reiterated: ‘I really think she could have been nicer.’
Sing it, Sam: Kim Cattrall taped an episode of the iTV series ‘Life Stories’ with Piers Morgan (above) and addressed claims that her demands shut down filming of ‘Sex and the City 3’
Bottoms up: ‘I never asked for any money, I never asked for any projects, to be thought of as some kind of diva is absolutely ridiculous,’ said Cattrall (above in scene from Sex and the City 2′ with Sarah Jessica Parker)
Cattrall also scoffed at the notion that she was ever close to signing on to the film, telling Morgan that she declined an offer to return as sex-positive publicist Samantha Jones.
‘The answer was always no and a respectful, firm, no,’ said Cattrall.
She then addressed some of the specific allegations reported by DailyMailTV claiming: ‘I never asked for any money, I never asked for any projects, to be thought of as some kind of diva is absolutely ridiculous.’
‘Diva’ was exactly how Cattrall was portrayed by two sources close to the production, who first claimed that her demands ruined any hope of a third film.
‘The only reason this movie isn’t being made is because of Kim Cattrall. Everyone was looking forward to making this movie but Kim made it all about her, always playing the victim,’ said one source.
‘Kim had the audacity to tell Warner Bros that she would only do this if they made other movies she had in development. Ridiculous. Who does she think she is – George Clooney?’
Another source added: ‘This franchise made her and let’s be frank, it’s all she is really known for.
‘Cast and crew don’t just show up to make a movie, they have to rearrange their lives. People turned down other jobs, were in the process of relocating to New York but she kept stalling and was always unavailable when answers from her were needed.’
Parker and actresses Cynthia Nixon and Kristen Davis were all signed on for the same upfront salaries and had set aside the time to film the project said sources, with the three women heartbroken about the turn of events.
Stranded at the altar: Cattrall added that she had declined to be part of the film back in 2016, saying: ‘The answer was always no and a respectful, firm, no’ (l to r: Cynthia Nixon, Kristen Davis, Parker and Cattrall in Sex and the City’)
Frenemies and the city: ‘I take to task the people from “Sex And The City” and specifically Sarah Jessica Parker in that I think she could have been nicer,’ said Cattrall
It was just hours after DailyMailTV broke the story of Cattrall’s demands that Parker confirmed the report.
‘It’s over… we’re not doing it,’ said the actress in an interview with Extra! last Thursday.
‘I’m disappointed. We had this beautiful, funny, heartbreaking, joyful, very relatable script and story.’
She went on to say: ‘It’s not just disappointing that we don’t get to tell the story and have that experience, but more so for that audience that has been so vocal in wanting another movie.’
One of the sources who spoke to DailyMailTV also noted that the script, from Michael Patrick King, was going to be a treat for fans.
‘The script is fantastic. The fans would’ve loved the movie but Warner Bros couldn’t give in to her ridiculous demands,’ said the source.
‘Kim held everyone’s life up. Her behavior is beyond disappointing. We should’ve been shooting the movie and now everyone is wondering will this film ever get made.’
The source then added: ‘Everyone is very sad that the fans will now miss out on what was a wonderful story about the lives of four of their favorite women.’
