Novak Djokovic once again did his talking on the court as he roared past Russian star Karen Khachanov to reach the quarter-finals of the Dubai Tennis Championships.

All eyes are on the world No 1 in what is his first official tournament action since he was deported by the Australian government last month prior to the Australian Open.

Khachanov rallied in the second set, forcing a tie-break but he was no match for Djokovic, who is looking to defend the title he won here last year.

Speaking after his 6-3, 7-6 win, Djokovic said: ‘It’s part of professional sport to feel excited and motivated but also stressed and especially in moments where you are faced with break points.

‘It was equally good support for both of us and for tennis players around the world this kind of passion is what we play for. I want to thank all of you from my heart.’

He added, when asked if he had missed playing following his visa row in Australia: ‘I missed it, obviously.

‘This is my life. This is what I have known to do and will still keep on doing for the last 20 years. Professional tennis is my love.’

More to follow.
