Princess Mary displays signature style in blue tweed coat

Australian-born royal Crown Princess Mary looked chic in a powder blue coat as she and her husband Prince Frederik attended the opening of Denmark’s parliament.

The annual event marked the start of the new Danish parliamentary year, and is traditionally attended by the Danish royalty, including head of state, Queen Margrethe.

Other royals officiating included Princess Marie, Prince Joachim and  Princess Benedikte.

The dress code for the official event was formal, and Princess Mary, 45, appeared to channel the Sixties for the occasion wearing an elegant pale blue tweed belted coat.

Her demure ensemble was perfectly paired with nude pumps, a royal purple velvet pillbox hat and a posey of brightly coloured roses.

A large statement brooch, diamond earrings, a violet-coloured clutch and gloves added a modern twist to her classic look.

It’s not the first time the Princess has rocked a look that appears to take inspiration from the iconic Sixties.

Previously the stylish royal has been seen in a Peter Pan collar and the purple pillbox hat she wore to the opening of Parliament has been paired by Mary with similar-style outfits before.

The hat is perhaps a nod to the iconic style of former American First Lady Jackie Kennedy, who became well known for her glamorous gloves and hats.

Crown Prince Frederik also showed he’s no slouch in the style stakes either, stepping out once again sporting some very fashionable stubble.

The Prince also sported a smart black suit for the occasion – which was paired with a black tie and crisp white shirt.

The official ceremony begun with the gathered royals received by the Speaker, currently former Danish People’s Party leader Pia Kjærsgaard.

Following, the Danish Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen delivered his opening address to the assembled MPs and gathered dignitaries.

The assembled royals, including Queen Margrethe, watched the official proceedings from the Folketinget parliament’s Royal box.

As is tradition, the PM’s speech outlined some of the government’s initiatives for the coming session, as well as presenting an assessment of the state of the kingdom.

However, at one point during the proceedings, Prince Frederik appeared a little weary – resting his head on his hand as he was seated in the Royal box.
