Frankie Bridge opens up about parenting

With a popstar mother and a footballer father, it would be easy for the children of Frankie and Wayne Bridge to grow up used to the finer things in life.

But former Saturdays star Frankie insists her sons Parker, three, and Carter, two, lead ‘normal’ lives and will be taught the value of hard work.

Speaking in an interview with FEMAIL, the mother-of-two, who lives with her family in Oxshott, Surrey, discussed how she and husband Wayne, 36, have different approaches when it comes to parenting, adding that she is a ‘walkover’.

‘We both have the same values but Wayne is a lot stricter than I am,’ Frankie said. ‘I am a massive walkover, really. I do tend to say yes a lot, which I need to work on a little bit.’

Frankie married former Chelsea player Wayne in a private ceremony in 2014. Following a successful singing career, she has now stepped into television and is presenting Cannonball on ITV.

She is also an ambassador for the #FeelSuper campaign for the third year running, which sees P&G and Superdrug team up to support the hard work of Marie Curie nurses.

Frankie said both she and Wayne are bringing their sons up to understand that they will need to work hard for what they want.

She said: ‘ Wayne and I, our parents always used to work, my mum always used to work, she was a working parent, and I have worked form the age of 12.

‘So for me, I definitely want my kids to realise you don’t get anything for nothing, you’ve got to work hard to get anything that you want, whether it’s a relationship, money, any opportunity.

‘And I think hopefully they will. Wayne and I both worked for a young age and our kids do really lead normal lives.

‘Both of us still have all of our friends from home so all our friends have ‘normal’ jobs and lead ‘normal’ lives so it’s what they’re used to being around.’

The singer said she struggles when strangers criticise her parenting on social media.

She added: ‘As a mum, that’s quite annoying. I just think it’s odd that people who have horrible opinions and want other people to know those opinions…

‘They don’t realise the impact they are having on the person’s life and they just see the internet and a real human being as two separate things.’
