Sam Armytage says she got to the top through hard work

Sunrise co-host Sam Armytage has told Mark Latham how she succeeded in journalism despite not sharing the views of big city elites.

Ms Armytage said she has broken through a few glass ceilings by working hard rather than bowing to pressure to conform to mainstream opinions.

She said there is growing anger in country Australia about the disconnect between ordinary people and the media.

‘I’ve never played the woman card, I’ve never thought I didn’t get a job because I was a woman, I could always hold my own,’ she told Mark Latham’s Outsiders.

When asked by Mr Latham how she deals with attacks from ‘Left feminists’, Ms Armytage said she knows how to take care of herself.

‘I’m from that generation that just quietly goes about their business – I’ve used Julie Bishop as a bit of a mentor in that – you just get on with the job,’ she said.

‘You get on with it, you do your bit, there’s a few glass ceilings I’ve broken through accidentally, with drive and hard work.’

Ms Armytage went on to discuss her clash with US comedian Kathy Griffin over her stunt of holding up a severed head of Donald Trump.

Griffin had attacked Ms Armytage, saying she should have ‘had her back’ and calling her the equivalent of a ‘white Trump voter in America’.

Ms Armytage told Mr Latham she thought Griffin was ‘unwell’ and the type of person who can ‘give it but not take it’.

She said she did not find Griffin’s stunt funny, and was disappointed no one else in the media called her out on that during her promo tour.

Ms Armytage revealed she was the winner of an early 100 to 1 bet on Trump to win the US presidency, after sensing the ‘silent majority’ might be about to roar.

She said it shows the disconnect between average country people and city dwellers who also dominate the media.

Ms Armytage also congratulated Rebel Wilson for winning her defamation lawsuit, and said it was brave of her to stand up to the Bauer Media Group.
