After shining the spotlight on Australian musicians on his Apple Music Beats 1 radio show Sir Elton John spared some time during his Australian tour to meet some of his favourite local artists.

Musical collective Winston Surfshirt and young aspiring songwriter Ruel visited with The Rocket Man on Tuesday in Sydney. 

Ever so gracious, the 70-year-old followed the surreal moment up with a special nod to the Sydney-based group citing them as his ‘favourite band of the moment’ on his Instagram page.

‘My favourite band of the moment. Winston Surfshirt from Sydney. New album is “Sponge Cake”,’ he wrote to his near 800,000 followers. 

He also showed an appreciation for Ruel citing on his Twitter account: ‘While in Sydney, Elton met one of Australia’s brightest new stars Ruel…’ 

Ecstatic male group Winston Surfshirt took to Twitter to share their pure joy that they had spent time with one of music’s biggest names.

‘My dream came true today! Huge love to Elton John for having us over this afternoon! Learnt a lot from the Rocket Man! Absolute Legend,’ the groups Twitter account stated.

The renowned international music legend, who has set the bar high for excellence in music and whose work will inspire many generations to come, gave Ruel all the more reason to follow his dreams following the visit. 

On his Instagram the young emerging star later wrote: ‘Huge thanks to Elton John for his time to chat and to share his wisdom.’ 

The Veteran singer had previously offered his support to 14-year-old emerging Australian star Ruel mid September with a shout-out on his radio show.

‘From Australia, this is a 14-year-old boy… with an amazing track,’ Sir Elton told listeners on his Beats 1 radio show.  

The international superstar gushed over schoolboy Ruel while giving a nod to his slick track Don’t Tell Me, staring the youngsters sensational vocals. 

Sir Elton had been in awe of Ruel’s ability to pen a track with such heart, so young.

‘It’s astonishing someone so young can write something so good. I give up.’

Fans who had seen Sir Elton in concert across Australia over the week couldn’t resist gushing on social media about their entrancing experiences. 

‘Thanks for a spectacular night!! Always amazing. Come back soon,’ one woman wrote. 

Another quoted his stance on marriage equality stating: ‘Elton John: ”I don’t want my kids to grow up in a world of hate, that’s why you need to vote yes.”’

One Twitter user summed the night up in three workds citing only: ‘Will never forget.’
