A Massachusetts driver told police she had been withdrawing from drugs at the time she caused a three-way car crash that took the life of a 58-year-old woman.
Danielle Mastro, 33, was headed north on Quincy Street in Brockton Tuesday afternoon to purchase $50 worth of heroin from her dealer when she rear-ended another vehicle that was driven by victim Deborah Combra.
Mastro told authorities she was distracted as she was texting and talking on the phone with her dealer when she struck Combra’s SUV, causing it to veer into the path of 12-wheeler.
Combra had just departed lunch with a friend, who was sitting in the passenger seat of her car at the time of the deadly collision.

The passenger and truck driver both survived and suffered minor injuries from the incident.
The victim was pronounced dead at Brockton Hospital where she had several deformities such as a ‘skull laceration, fractures to her arms and legs, lacerations to her head and face, and both of her ankles deformed,’ according to the Boston Herald.
In the police report, Castro admitted to taking ‘shots of vodka’ earlier in the day on an empty stomach, while telling police during questioning, ‘Ya, I’m (f—–g) dope-sick as (f–k).’
She was charged Wednesday with motor vehicle homicide and leaving the scene of an accident after she told police that she ‘didn’t even look at it’ and just ‘threw it in park and (expletive) ran’ after the crash, the police record said.

Plymouth District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz said Mastro will stay behind bars as she has proved to be ‘a risk to public safety.’
‘We have an individual out there who puts her own needs ahead of others people’s safety on a public way, which is why I believe she should be held.’
Prosecutor Dan Jimenez agreed, and asked a judge to revoke her bail of $50,000, citing multiple wrongdoings, including driving on a suspended license.
‘She knew that this license was suspended and she drove anyway,’ Jimenez said of Mastro.

‘She not only fled from police once in Hanson for the civil motor vehicle violation, but she also fled from the scene after causing the death of another.
‘The fact that she was trying to get drugs from her drug dealer, she poses a serious danger to the community at large. She knew that this license was suspended and she drove anyway.’
During Wednesday’s hearing, loved ones to the late Combra were reduced to tears as they hugged one another and caught first glimpse at the woman responsible for her death.
Castro had a relaxed demeanor and held a straight face throughout the meeting Wednesday.
She is set to appear back in court November 1.
