After eight years of begging, pleading, and even petitioning, KFC has finally made Australia’s dream come true.
Mashies are back – and they’ve gotten an upgrade.
The beloved fast food chain announced this week that the famous crusted mashed potato balls would be returning to stores throughout the country.
And this time around each Mashie is filled with oozing warm gravy in the middle.
After eight long years, KFC has finally brought back their beloved Mashies – with a twist
The famous crusted mashed potato balls would be returning to stores throughout Austrlalia, and this time they’re filled with gravy
Australia will be the first country in the world to offer the Gravy Mashies, which will be available in 600 stores across the country.
But the Mashies will only be available for a limited time, news that will surely break many hearts.
There has been an impassioned fight to bring the potato treat back to KFC, with some fans even launching ‘Bring Back The Mashies’ groups on Facebook.
Customers begged and pleaded with the restaurant on social media, trying to convince the chain that a world with Mashies is a better place.
‘Those little succulent balls of fluffy, cloudy-goodness will restore faith in humanity!’ Nathan Young wrote in June.
‘The touch of a thousand angels will dance on your taste buds, as those potato, 11 secreted-encrusted, gravy-doused specimens enter your soul. Australia is calling and we need you to accept the charges. Be our Hero!’
Gravy Mashies were trialled in Tasmania in 2015, and more than 130,000 were bought in less than two weeks.

‘Our fans have spoken, and we had to listen, KFC marketing director Angela Richards told The Daily Telegraph.
‘When you have fans that are this passionate, you have to give them what they want.’
KFC announced the big news with a Facebook video that was watched nearly a million times, and received more than 27,000 comments, this week.
Many fans were over the moon with excitement, with one man even admitting that he had been waiting ‘nine long years’ for the day Mashies would return.
‘Year after year after year I was met with disappointment…until today!’ wrote Josh Kumm, who could still recall the exact date of his last Mashie in September 2008.
‘Thank you KFC, thank you for making a young man’s dream come true.’
Ben Cherry likewise admitted to KFC that he had been praying for years that the Mashies would return to the restaurant’s menu.
‘I literally can’t even right now,’ he wrote. ‘This is very exciting. What a time to be alive.’

But even some of the most devout Mashie lovers were not keen on the new gravy centre.
‘I have waited years for these to come back and you have ruined them,’ Sharon Barr wrote.
‘I don’t like gravy, never have, so no Mashies for me. Thanks for nothing KFC.’
Jewelz Williams felt the same way, writing: ‘No! Why would you do this!? I’ve been wanting Mashies to come back for years! But now you have ruined them with gravy!’
KFC responded to Jewelz and a few other critics’ comments, advising them to ‘give them a try before you knock ’em’.
For those who aren’t deterred by gravy goodness, there isn’t much time to get your hands on the beloved treat.
Mashies will only be available until the end of October. The last serving set will be auctioned on eBay and the winner will be flown to the KFC test kitchen in Sydney.
