  • Came after Sami cheekily mocked Gutherson’s famed post-try celebration

Parramatta captain Clint Gutherson has revenge on his mind – and he’s looking squarely at Phillip Sami.

In one of the highlights of the NRL’s opening round, the Gold Coast winger openly mocked the popular Eels fullback after forcing his way over for a try at Bankwest Stadium on Sunday afternoon in the see-sawing affair.

After planting the ball down to give the Titans the lead at the time, Sami produced his own ‘Gutherino’ post-try celebration – and it didn’t go unnoticed.

The two sides meet again in round five on April 9 at Cbus Stadium – a date Gutherson has already marked on his calendar.

‘Four weeks, I’ve already looked and we’re already back into it,’ a fired up Gutherson told the Big Sports Breakfast on Tuesday.

‘At the time I didn’t even notice, I was just a bit annoyed that he’d (Sami) scored.’

The Parramatta cult hero watched the replay on the big screen a few moments later and noted Sami’s ‘disrespect’- before revealing the rivals are actually good mates away from the heat of battle.

‘It’s a bit of a laugh and he said he just got caught up in the moment,’ Gutherson said.

‘It’s good for footy…the crowd gave him a lot after that and look, if you’re going to do a little dance, you’re going to cop it.

‘For me, it adds to the theatre of the game, I love it.’

In commentary, Fox League commentator Andrew Voss couldn’t believe the cheek of Sami.

‘Did you see that? He’s done the Gutherino over the top of Clint Gutherson,’ Voss said.

‘Not lost in the moment. Bit of gamesmanship. Well that is rubbing it in.’
