Mikel Arteta has insisted that Arsenal need to be at their best to beat the ‘best team in this league, Liverpool on Wednesday night.

The Gunners will look to strengthen their grip of fourth spot when they host the Reds who have added incentive going into the match.

Manchester City’s draw with Crystal Palace means Jurgen Klopp’s side can close the gap at the top to just one point.

Liverpool took a hefty 4-0 win in the reverse fixture in November, and Arteta has praised Klopp’s side going into tomorrow’s game.

During his pre-match press conference, he said: ‘It’s four months later (since the game at Anfield) and we’re still arguably going to play against the best team or second best team in this league. 

‘They are in great form and we are going to have to be at our best to beat them.’

When asked about Arsenal’s current form, he said: ‘It puts you in a position where you’re trying to look up and give you the belief you can be with the best teams in the country but in reality there’s a long way to go.

‘We played City not long time ago and you know the problems they put in. Every week is a test in the Premier League and different ones.

‘Tomorrow you face a team that dominates every aspect of the game so you have to be at your best.’

Arteta has been manager at the Gunners since December 2019 and is currently on for his best league finish at the club with 12 games to go.

It took Klopp three and a half seasons to win the Champions League, before winning the Premier League the year later.

Speaking on Liverpool’s success, he said: ‘They haven’t just created a team that can compete and be successful they have created a huge culture and understanding of who Liverpool is today.

‘The stadium, the atmosphere they can create, the support and how they communicate. It’s a lot of things, the players they recruited, it’s the whole plan I really value I think.’
