‘Everyone connected with Liverpool believe they will go on and win the title’: Jamie Carragher insists victory over Arsenal is the tipping point for Reds’ title chances… despite Man City’s one-point lead
- Liverpool moved to within just one point of Manchester City in the league table
- The Reds secured an excellent 2-0 victory over in-form Arsenal on Wednesday
- They have now won nine Premier League games in a row – conceding just twice
- Jamie Carragher now believes many within Liverpool are confident of the title
Jamie Carragher now believes Liverpool could be the new favourites to win the Premier League title after their excellent 2-0 victory over Arsenal.
The Reds were up against one of the Premier League’s most in-form teams in the Gunners at the Emirates Stadium but swatted aside the north London outfit thanks to second half goals from Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino.
The result leaves Liverpool just a point behind Manchester City in the Premier League table, with Pep Guardiola’s side having stumbled to a 0-0 draw at Crystal Palace on Monday night.

Carragher admits that throughout the season many associated with the Reds had still fancied City to take the title again.
But recent wobbles for the champions in comparison to Liverpool, who have won nine league games in a row, mean the legendary Reds defender is now backing his former side for the title.
‘I think everyone connected with Liverpool Football Club will believe they will go on and win the title,’ Carragher told Sky Sports.

Roberto Firmino celebrates with the crowd having scored the Reds’s second goal
‘It’s the first time I’ve ever thought that throughout the season. I’ve always thought that Man City would. There’s still a point in it. But I think the momentum Liverpool have, the game they have coming up next, they could go top of the league.
‘You can see the reaction from the supporters and the players now. Man City are still in great form, they’re just dropping points a little bit.
‘You can imagine what Anfield is going to be like. As I said, I think everyone in that away end believes Liverpool are going to win the league.’
The crucial clash in the title fight comes next month when Liverpool visit the Etihad Stadium, but form is clearly with Jurgen Klopp’s men who have now also conceded just two Premier League games in nine stretching back to the start of January.
Jurgen Klopp has vowed for his side to annoy Manchester City during the title run in
Meanwhile, Klopp admits he was surprised to see City drop more Premier League points at Selhurst Park – and vows to make his side a major irritation to his title rivals.
‘I watched them [City] play exactly 65 minutes but for analysis reasons only – believe it or not. I don’t often have time to watch games,’ he said.
‘Crystal Palace did really well, Man City did really well. I saw the result and I was surprised.
‘The plan is to be as annoying as possible,’ he added.
‘We have to win our games. You know that but we are very ambitious and determined to do great stuff.
