A Boston bombing survivor, an albino model and a size 22 starlet joined forces for a ‘boundary pushing’ runway show in Toronto this week.
Canadian designer Lesley Hampton cast a stunning line-up of models to showcase her SS18 collection at One Yonge Street on Tuesday evening.
Hampton’s Toronto Fashion Week spectacular was run in collaboration with my Be Body Aware Project which aims to champion diversity in the industry.
The show featured no less than five plus-size models, one a size 22 (US 18) with women of all shapes, sizes and ages modelling the colourful daywear and sequin-festooned evening gowns.
Albino beauty Damaris, 19, is newly signed with B&M models Toronto. She is taking the candian fashion industry by storm and has already graced the cover of Afropunk magazine
Boston Bombing Suvivor and Ampute model Adrianne Haslet ended the show with a standing ovation and the show left some audience members in tears according to onlookers.
Haslet tragically lost a leg in the terror attack but just three years later she crossed the finish line after running ten hours on a prosthetic.

‘This runway was super meaningful and emotional for me as a designer, as a woman and as a First Nation artist.’
