Jessica Mauboy scores an ARIA nomination

She’s come a long way since her days on Australian Idol back in 2006.

And Jessica Mauboy is now celebrating being nominated for a coveted ARIA Award, for The Secret Daughter soundtrack.

The Daily Telegraph reports the 28-year-old hit maker was thrilled by the news, saying it is ‘crazy good.’

‘People in this industry love what they love, so to have that acknowledgment … it’s crazy good,’ Jessica said.

The soundtrack reportedly is nominated in the Best Original Soundtrack or Musical Theatre Cast Album category.

The soundtrack released last year, made Jessica become the first Indigenous Australian artist to debut at number one on the ARIA Albums chart.

She also told News.com.au about her single Fallin’ from the soundtrack, and said she was surprised it is only one of two Australian singles on the latest ARIA chart.

‘We have such great talent here so where the heck is it?,’ Jessica said, in support of Australian artists, adding she is ‘disappointed’ Australian artists aren’t more supported.

Jessica – who is known for hits including Never Be The Same and Burn – first landed her acting gig in The Secret Daughter last year, when it’s first season debuted.

In July, Jessica opened up about her long term relationship with boyfriend Themeli Magripilis – who appeared in her film clip for Fallin’.

‘That’s not his style, he’s a bush fella,’ Jessica told The Project.

She was also quizzed about if the pair were planning to marry anytime soon and she shot down the rumours.
