‘I studied her tapes so… to the step, to the finger, to the everything and I was like, everything I did was five steps to the right, I didn’t want to get anything wrong, her lips, anything,’ Lopez began.
‘Edward James Olmos, who played my father in the movie and was an amazing actor, said, “You know everything. Just let it go. Let it go. Don’t think about it, just let it go and be.” We filmed that scene in the Astrodome with that purple outfit and it was magic, but you have to let it go at some point,’ she said.

Selena Quintanilla was one of the most celebrated Mexican artists of the 20th Century, dubbed the Queen of Tejano Music, a musical style that blends Mexican and American influences which was brought into the mainstream with Selena’s music.
The singer was on the cusp of global stardom – becoming the first Tejano singer to win a Grammy in 1994 – when she was murdered by Yolanda Saldivar, the manager of her fan club and boutiques, who was discovered to be embezzling money from her, in March 1995.
