Sunday lunches are the best meal of the week, I’m sure many of you will agree!
This is why it’s important that when you make a Sunday lunch for a party of friends or family, you add something to the mix that’s bound to impress. There’s a lot of competition for who can make the best roast, so here are a few tips to make sure you blow the competition out of the water.
Get a Good Cut In
The main part of the Sunday lunch is, obviously, the meat, so it’s essential that you get a good cut of meat to make the meal amazing. Try to get down to your local butcher and buy yourself a lovely cut of beef or whole chicken to start your meal preparation off right.
If you don’t have a butcher nearby, then there’s always the option of ordering an online meat delivery, so you don’t even have to leave the house to get a great meal sorted!
Slow Roast Your Meat
If you’ve bought your nice cut of meat, but are nervous about potentially over or under-cooking it, then making a slow roast out of it is a good solution.
It’s fantastic for nervous cooks, and you can leave it alone whilst you’re working on the other components of your meal without worrying about it being ruined. Not only that but there are plenty of delicious recipes for slow-cooked meats.
DIY Your Sauces
There’s absolutely nothing better than homemade food, so why not add a homemade spin to your condiments?
Homemade mustard and bread sauce are just some suggestions we have, but if you can think of a sauce you like to have with your roast dinner, then why not look up a recipe for it and try making it yourself?
You should also consider doing this with your gravy; use juice from your cut of meat and some stock to make an absolutely delicious gravy to accompany your meal. It’ll taste so much better than anything you can buy in the supermarket!
Don’t Leave the Stuffing for Christmas
Whilst stuffing is normally a seasonal food, that doesn’t mean you should forget all about it for the rest of the year! Even if you don’t want to eat it as its own dish, you can use it to stuff chicken or duck and get some delicious flavoring added to your meat.
Sweeten Your Veg
Some people consider the vegetables to be the worst part of a Sunday roast, but with this simple trick, your guests will be begging for more! Try cooking your parsnips and carrots in either honey or golden syrup, which will make them nice and sweet.
This will add a whole new flavor to your meal, and make for a nice change from the salty potatoes and meat.
Mint Your Peas
Similarly, your peas can also be uplifted by adding some mint to them. From the smell alone, you’ll be able to tell that your peas are going to be a crowd-pleaser. They taste absolutely brilliant as well!
Take Your Pudding Nice and Slow
The perfect ending to a great Sunday lunch is, of course, the dessert. Cooking one at the same time as the rest of your meal might be difficult, however, so try to prepare it in advance and pop it in the oven so it’s ready for the end of your meal.
Some easy crowd-pleasers, that aren’t too difficult, including apple, crumble, and any kind of fruit tart, but our recommendation is a Victoria Sponge, which can be heated up just before serving, and plated alongside hot custard for the perfect ending to any meal.
Remember, the dessert will stick in the minds of your guests the most once they’ve left, so make sure you leave them with something brilliant to remember!
