An adorable little girl stuck her middle finger up at her mother in what could be considered a very rude gesture after she was bitten ‘by a beetle.’
She holds her injured finger up to her face and her mother asks her which finger the mosquito bit her on in a house which is believed to be in South Africa.
She holds up her middle finger and says : ‘On this finger.’
‘Did a mosquito bite you?’ her mother asks as she records the injured girl’s testimony about her encounter with an insect.
‘No a beetle,’ the little girl replies.
‘That’s a silly beetles, eh? Naughty beetle,’ her mum said.
Beetles are the largest group of insects on the planet.
There are 400,000 species of beetle and they constitute almost 40% of all known insects and 25% of all animals.
New beetle species are discovered frequently and they are found in almost every habitat except the sea and the polar regions.
Beetles are distinguished from other insects by their hardened front wings called elytra.
