Gary Neville and Jamie Redknapp concerned about Marcus Rashford after latest Man United snub

‘Marcus Rashford is having a MASSIVE low’: Gary Neville and Jamie Redknapp stunned after Man United star starts on the bench against Leicester, with Ralf Rangnick opting to play without a recognised forward instead

  • Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani were both unavailable to face Leicester
  • Marcus Rashford may have fancied his chances of starting at Old Trafford
  • However, Ralf Rangnick decided to name Rashford on the substitutes’ bench
  • Rangnick started attacking midfielder Bruno Fernandes up front instead

Gary Neville believes Marcus Rashford being left out of Manchester United’s starting XI for their clash with Leicester will be tough for the forward to take.

With Cristiano Ronaldo being ruled out due to illness and Edinson Cavani unavailable through injury, it appeared that Rashford could be set to start at Old Trafford.

However, interim boss Ralf Rangnick opted to play without a recognised centre forward as he picked Bruno Fernandes to lead the line, and Neville feels that selection will come as a major blow to Rashford.

‘Marcus Rashford is having a massive low,’ Neville said, speaking on Sky Sports prior to kick-off.

‘To not be in that Manchester United team today, Marcus Rashford, is saying something, I have to say.

‘To play without a centre forward at home against Leicester when he’s had a couple of weeks break as well is a big decision by Ralf Rangnick.’

Jamie Redknapp agreed with Neville’s assessment of Rashford’s current situation at United, and wondered what the 24-year-old must be thinking after being omitted from the line-up.

He added: ‘Gary’s spot on. Marcus Rashford’s not had any international football, you’d think he’d be training well, showing that he wants to play, and if you’re seeing a midfield player, a No. 10, playing as a central striker…’

Rashford has now only started three of United’s last 12 league matches, and he was snubbed in similar circumstances for the Manchester derby last month, when Ronaldo and Cavani were absent for that match.

His lack of game time since the turn of the year cost him a place in Gareth Southgate’s latest England squad, and he has been linked with a move away from his boyhood club this summer.

It is understood that Arsenal are interested in signing Rashford to bolster their attacking options when the transfer window re-opens.
