Chelsea Clinton broke the ice Saturday on the Harvey Weinstein sexual harassment allegations by sharing a lengthy Twitter thread attacking reports that have attempted to politicize the Hollywood scandal.
Without making a formal confirmation, the former First Daughter turned businesswoman appeared to also support the reports bashing Weinstein after news erupted this week claiming the movie mogul had been paying off his accusers for decades.
Clinton took to Twitter this afternoon to retweet a seven-part thread published by ThinkProgress editor, Judd Legum, which detailed Weinstein’s ‘despicable’ behavior addressed into detail in a New York Times report.
Legum wrote: Weinstein’s conduct, as documented in the NYT, is despicable … Also despicable, are those that are using the story exclusively as a political narrative, with no actual concern for the victims or issue.

While she didn’t make formal confirmation, the former First Daughter appeared to also support the reports bashing Weinstein after news erupted this week
Hillary Clinton, who has long time held a powerful stance in supporting women empowerment, has remained silent thus far about news regarding Weinstein
‘Core issue here is not Weinstein’s political donations, but the powerful in Hollywood who knew about the conduct but stayed silent,’ Legum said.
‘It’s an issue of powerful institutions protecting predatory men. If you care about this, you’ll talk about that.’
He then continued: ‘Instead it’s being absorbed by the right into their slime machine … This isn’t just an effort to weaponize it politically against ‘liberals.’ It’s also an effort to distract from the actual discussion.
‘FACT: Most of the folks talking about Weinstein on the far right don’t even believe sexual harassment is a problem.’
Before bringing attention to Legum’s stance on the investigative claims, Clinton shared a tweet from one of Weinstein’s newest accusers – former Fox News anchor, Lauren Sivan.
Sivan, who worked as an anchor for Long Island 12 more than a decade ago, came forward in an interview with HuffPost Friday saying Weinstein once cornered her in a restaurant hallway during a private event and masturbated in front of her.
Chelsea Clinton was the first in her family to share any form of reaction to the escalating sexual harassment claims
According to a new report, Weinstein began donating to several Democratic leaders in the early 1990’s and has funded campaigns for Senators
Clinton shared a post from a link detailing the story further – alongside one of Sivan’s supporter’s additional words: ‘Crazy a** story. Sorry thank u for stand up to #BeFierce.’
Clinton was the first in her family to share any form of reaction to the escalating sexual harassment claims – which has since created public fury as many are slamming former First Lady Hillary Clinton for her cowardice toward feminists.
Clinton, who has long time held a powerful stance in supporting women empowerment, has remained silent thus far about news regarding Weinstein – who has been a significant supporter and donor to progressive causes within the Democratic party.
According to a report by The Slot, Weinstein began donating to several Democratic leaders in the early 1990’s and has funded campaigns for Senators such as ‘Kirsten Gillibrand, Al Franken, Cory Booker, Chuck Schumer, Richard Blumenthal, Elizabeth Warren, Patrick Leahy, Martin Heinrich, and Sheldon Whitehouse.’
The Center for Responsive Politics confirmed Weinstein has ‘shelled out hundreds of thousands of dollars to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) and the Democratic National Committee (DNC), and has also donated to state Democratic parties; in total, his political donations amount to over $1.4 million,’ The Slot report noted.
But around the time he was making generous contributions for progressive campaigns, several of Weinstein’s accusers have claimed the sexual harassment incidents took place.
