Bodycam footage shows Rust paramedics frantically trying to save cinematographer Halyna Hutchins

Newly-released bodycam footage shows paramedics frantically trying to save a cinematographer after she was accidentally shot dead by Alec Baldwin.

The distressing clip of Halyna Hutchins’ final moments – including paramedics crying ‘Halyna, stay with us!’ was released as part of a trove of evidence shared by Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office Monday.

Hutchins, who died aged 42, could be seen unconscious of the floor of a church set as emergency responders worked to save her after she was shot on the New Mexico set of the western in October 2021.

She appeared to be unconscious throughout, having been shot through her right armpit, with the bullet that struck her later emerging again through the top of her shoulder.

Not much can be heard other than encouragement for Hutchins and the paramedics barking instructions at one another.

In another video, the crew from Rust, including Baldwin, can be heard asking how Hutchins is doing.

Baldwin can be heard asking ‘what’s her story?’ in reference to Hutchins and being told things are ‘a little bit rougher.’

Someone can be heard asking if the condition is life-threatening and the response is: ‘enough to get air-lifted.’

One video showed him being approached by cops for the first time moments after the shooting, and being warned not to discuss what had happened with any colleagues before he’d been spoken to by cops.

Another clip showed Baldwin sitting on the back of a truck and asking for an update on Hutchins, only to be told by the cop that EMTs were still working on her.

A third set of footage showed him being grilled back at a police station afterwards.

The investigation files also include rehearsal clips that show Baldwin in costume as he practices a quick-draw maneuver with a gun.

Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza said in a statement that the investigation by his agency remains open and ongoing as it awaits the results of ballistics and forensic analysis from the FBI as well as studies of fingerprint and DNA.

‘The sheriff’s office is releasing all files associated with our ongoing investigation,’ he said in the statement. Those files also include photos of ammunition from the set and examination reports.

At a ranch on the outskirts of Santa Fe on Oct. 21, 2021, Baldwin was pointing a gun at cinematographer Halyna Hutchins when it went off, killing Hutchins and wounding the director, Joel Souza. They had been inside a small church during setup for filming a scene.

In a video taken by police later that day, Baldwin makes a few frantic calls as he awaits a meeting with law enforcement officials.

‘You have no idea how unbelievable this is and how strange this is,’ he says over the phone.

New Mexico workplace safety regulators last week issued the maximum possible fine of nearly $137,000 against the ‘Rust’ film production company.

New Mexico´s Occupational Health and Safety Bureau said Rust Movie Productions must pay $136,793, and distributed a scathing narrative of safety failures in violation of standard industry protocols, including testimony that production managers took limited or no action to address two misfires on set prior to the fatal shooting.

The bureau also documented gun safety complaints from crew members that went unheeded and said weapons specialists were not allowed to make decisions about additional safety training. Rust Movie Productions has indicated it will dispute the findings and sanction.

Baldwin said in a December interview with ABC News that he was on set pointing the gun at Hutchins at her instruction when it went off without his pulling the trigger.

The Santa Fe County Sheriff has released files from its investigation into the fatal shooting of Halyna Hutchins on the set of the movie Rust, including a video of Alec Baldwin being interviewed after accidentally killing the cinematographer.

Baldwin was filming a scene in a church set when he drew the gun and accidentally shot Hutchins, a mother and experienced cinematographer.

He has since cooperated with police as part of the investigation into her death.

In the new images, he is shown with his hands outstretched, standing solemnly. It was minutes after the shooting but before he knew Halyna had died in the hospital as a result of the injuries he accidentally caused.

He is not thought to have known at the moment of the interview that Hutchins had died.

In a video of his interview, he said he thought the gun was ‘cold’ when he was handed it by Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the armorer on the movie.

Baldwin, at the start of the video, asks if he is being charged with anything. He then lets out a huge sigh and says: ‘We’ve done this for two weeks and we’ve done it the right way every day.’

He goes on to insist that the gun they had been using before was ‘cold’.

‘Right before you shoot. I went to lunch.

‘She disarmed me – Hannah – she always handled the gun. I come back, they hand me the revolver – Hannah – they arm me. You’re assuming it’s a cold gun. I put the gag in the shot.

‘I take the gun out , as it clears – I turn and cock the gun and the gun goes off. It’s supposed to be a cold gun.

‘Bang, she hits the ground. [Joel Souza] goes down, screaming going “Jesus Christ!

‘I have never seen this before… What came out of that bullet that went through her shoulder?…. She was right in front of me.’

The bullet went through Souza’s arm first and then struck Hutchins. He recovered with an injury, but Hutchins died in the hospital.

He went on to describe Gutierrez-Reed as ‘the daughter of a famous gun guy’ who gave him the weapon.

Towards the end of the interview, Baldwin is shown a photograph of what was removed from Souza’s shoulder.

Shocked, he says: ‘That’s a bullet. Somebody put a live bullet in the gun.’

He is then quizzed.

‘Did you see the rounds in the gun?’

‘No.’

‘Have you seen what they look like?’

‘I’ve watched her load and reload the gun many times.’

‘Have you seen the bullets?’

‘Sometimes the head is a casing, it’s pinched and closed at the top and you put the cosmetic round in when you know you’re going to see… those clay based rounds look exactly like a bullet.

‘So cosmetically you see that in the cylinder. I am very upset right now… forgive me.’

Baldwin was asked if there was anyone who might have intentionally placed a live bullet in the gun.

He referenced the fact there were crew strikes at the time and that many of the crew walked off set the previous day.

‘Those people were on strike against the major studios but not the independent film community. A bunch of people on the set walked off anyway even though they were told not to. That was yesterday.

‘I don’t even know – I have no idea,’ he said.

The investigation into the shooting has never been able to prove whether or not the bullet was intentionally loaded into the gun, or if it was all an accident.

Gutierrez-Reed has insisted throughout that she did not place it in the barrel of the gun and that she might have been sabotaged.

Baldwin, at first, had the support of Hutchins’ widower Matt. However he has since sued the actor and told how his parading in interviews since his wife’s death made him angry.

‘Watching him I just felt so angry to see him talk about her death publicly in such a detailed way and then not accepting any responsibility after he just described killing her…

‘Hearing him blame Halyna in the interview and shift responsibility to others and seeing him cry about it, I just feel like, are we really supposed to feel bad about you Mr. Baldwin?’ he said in an interview in February.
