Queen Letizia of Spain cut an elegant figure in an emerald two-piece as she attended the Children and Youth Literary Awards in Madrid.

The 49-year-old wore a light green two-piece, comprised of a sleeveless draped top and high-waisted palazzo pants for the event at the Green Patio Space in Madrid.

Draping a white Felipe Varela coat over her shoulders for her arrival at the event, she completed her look with a pair of slingback Magrit pumps.

She wore her long brunette locks loose and accessorised her look with gold hoops, a statement ring and a matching bag.

She greeted attendees and met with members of staff upon her arrival at the awards, which are also known as ‘the Gran Angular’ and  ‘El Barco De Vapor.’

The former journalist spoke with the Education Minister before appearing on stage to make a speech and give the winners their awards.

This year’s winners were Cristina Fernández Valls and Ginés Sánchez Muñoz.

Queen Letizia stepped out for the awards days after attending the Miguel de Cervantes Prize celebrations with her husband King Felipe II.

The King and Queen spent a few days meeting with journalists and literary giants at the annual award ceremony.

This year the prestigious lifetime achievement award has been given to Uruguayan novelist Cristina Peri Rossi.

The 80-year-old writer has more than 37 works to her name including novels and poetry and is most well-known for her novel The Ship of Fools, published in 1984.

The Miguel de Cervantes Prize is considered the most coveted literary award in Spanish literature. The official ceremony takes place every year on 23 April.

Tomorrow Queen Letizia and her husband will preside over the proclamation ceremony for the winner of the 2022 Princess of Girona Foundation Award in the Scientific Research category.
