‘Curly blow dry’ could be answer to frizzy hair woes

Curly haired women will agree that it’s something of a chore to keep your hair looking shiny, bouncy and most importantly frizz-free.

What’s more, those not blessed with pin-straight hair follicles will often shun the idea of a trip to the salon because there’s never really been an option for a blow dry that could give the same luxurious results as straight-haired girls get.

However, all that could be about to change, thanks to a newly launched service that promises to enhance natural curls with a special technique involving a diffuser.

We sent FEMAIL reporter, Natalie Corner, to the London Dryby Studio to test whether an hour-long treatment really can transform those follicles…

The one hour the DryBy Curls service was dreamed up by founders of London DryBy Studio founders Krisztina van der Boom and Anita Puluczkai along with Michele Scott-Lynch, the creator and founder of Bouclème, the natural hair care range for curls.

Michele believes that no two curls are the same: ‘For a curly girl to pop in and enjoy a styling service specifically for curls, is a dream come true.

‘Girls with curls need not be afraid of salons any longer.’

The hour-long service is £55 and because everyone’s curly hair is unique a consultation about the products you use and hair type occurs before.

‘I didn’t recognise my own hair’

From loose frizzy curls with no definition on the left

To a full head of tightly coiled curls on the right

‘I have to confess I hate the hairdressers, I haven’t been in well over a year.

‘At the start of 2017 I made a promise to myself to stop applying heat to my hair – giving up blow drying and straightening my damaged locks to repair it.

‘In nine months, my curl pattern has changed dramatically but I’ve struggled to really get the definition I’ve seen adorn Instagram every time I’ve searched for help on how to achieve a similar look at home.

‘The curly blow dry literally transformed my hair, achieving tight ringlets I never would have dreamed off.

‘I didn’t recognise my hair from the frizzy untamed mop I’d gone in with to a now shiny defined crown.’

‘My hairdresser Francesco is part of the team who has been trained by leading curly hairstylist Lindsey Hughes, known as ‘The Curl Whisperer’, and he washed my hair for around 20 minutes with the relevant Boucleme products.

‘He explained that by rigorously scrubbing the scalp with his fingers would clean the roots. I admit it went on for quite a while and my scalp is pretty sensitive but the experts are always right…!’

‘Using a cleanser and then the new intensive moisture treatment, before applying curl cream and gel combined, he worked the products through before adding heat with a hairdryer attached with a diffuser.

‘This is where my patience usually runs out at home, I would never spend three minutes blow-drying let alone thirty, but this technique is where the magic happens.

‘No extra products were needed, and no brushes were used so as not to destroy the curls, leaving them perfectly intact.

‘The results lasted for two days, but carefully managed they could have easily lasted an extra day. I would definitely return again.’
