Katherine Ryan reports neighbours for building a balcony overlooking her pool without permission

Comedienne Katherine Ryan failed to see the funny side when one of her London neighbours built a balcony overlooking her swimming pool without planning permission.

‘Due to my background in urban planning, I was able to report them,’ said the Canadian comic, who studied city planning at university in Toronto.

‘I’m not a snitch, but their prejudicing of my property actually devalues my property.’

Oh no: Katherine Ryan failed to see the funny side when one of her London neighbours built a balcony overlooking her swimming pool without planning permission (pictured in the garden of her home)

Ryan, 38, who stars in Channel 4 hit 8 Out Of 10 Cats, lives with civil partner Bobby Kootstra, their ten-month-old son Frederick, and her daughter Violet, 12, from a previous relationship.

She added: ‘I have 12-year-old girls in the swimming pool and then a bunch of builders like leaning over that balcony smoking.

I rang the council. ‘I feel bad about it, but then I convinced myself not to. They have to take it down.’

Katherine often shares snaps relaxing with her family in her pool which is located at the top of her sprawling garden.

It comes after last month Katherine waded into the shocking Oscars incident which saw Will Smith slap Chris Rock on stage.

She defended Chris to her followers and criticised Will for being unable to ‘take a joke’, after he became offended by Chris making a quip about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s shaved head.

Jada has been dealing with alopecia, an autoimmune condition that causes the loss of hair, since 2018, but Chris has said he wasn’t aware she suffered from it.

Chris poked fun Jada’s bald head, saying he was looking forward to G.I. Jane 2, which did not amuse Jada.

While Chris continued his bit, Will abruptly went on stage and walked up to Chris and slapped him across the face, and then telling him from his seat, ‘Keep my wife’s name out your f***ing mouth,’ which stunned the crowd at the Dolby Theater.

Taking to her Instagram Stories however, Katherine insisted that the insults were part and parcel of the ‘celebrity monologue’ of awards shows.

On fan wrote: ‘I don’t condone what he did, violence is never the answer but just because Chris is a ‘comedian’, it means Will has to sit and watch his wife be insulted? Chris shouldn’t have said it, Will shouldn’t have hit him.’

Katherine wrote in response: ‘Yes, he has to sit and watch his wife be insulted, yes that’s the point of the celeb monologue. Can’t take a joke, stay home.’

A different followers went on to day that the ‘politicisation and policing of black hair has been rife for centuries, and is so complex and nuanced – Rock’s derogatory comment was well below the belt and incredibly harmful’.

But Katherine shot back: ‘Yes I know and maybe you don’t know that Chris Rock made an entire documentary called Good Hair advocating for black women’.

Chris made the film in 2009 after his three-year-old daughter Lola asked: ‘Daddy, how come I don’t have good hair?’

Will has since has apologised for slapping Chris at the Oscars ceremony, saying his behaviour was ‘unacceptable and inexcusable’ and left him ’embarrassed’.
