Dolly Parton has a change of heart about her Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nomination after previously trying to withdraw from the honor: ‘I’ll accept gracefully’
Dolly Parton has changed her tune on her Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nomination.
The country superstar, 76, told NPR’s Morning Edition on Friday that she will now ‘accept gracefully’ if she’s voted into the Class of 2022.
The Jolene hitmaker explained that her previous attempt to withdraw from the honor was due to a misunderstanding: ‘It was always my belief that the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame was for people in rock music. I have found out lately it’s not necessarily that.’

The iconic singer, whose career has spanned five decades, went on to explain that she initially felt like she would be taking something away from someone who might have deserved it more.
‘If they can’t go there to be recognized, where can they go? And so I felt like I was taking away from someone that maybe deserved it certainly more than me since I never considered myself a rock artist.’
‘But obviously, there’s more to it than that,’ the star, who was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1999, added.
Parton is on the 2022 Hall of Fame ballot alongside Eminem, Beck, Duran Duran, Eminem, Carly Simon, A Tribe Called Quest, Lionel Richie, Rage Against the Machine and other iconic musicians.

Parton previously shocked fans when she announced on March 14 that she would be withdrawing from the contention.
‘Even though I am extremely flattered and grateful to be nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, I don’t feel that I have earned that right,’ she wrote at the time.
‘I really do not want votes to be split because of me, so I must respectfully bow out. I do hope that the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame will understand and be willing to consider me again — if I’m ever worthy,’ she wrote.

‘This has, however, inspired me to put out a hopefully great rock & roll album in the future, which I have always wanted to do.’
The Hall of Fame responded to the singer three days later saying that it was too late to remove her.
They released a statement that read, ‘Dolly’s nomination, along with the other 16 for the Class of 2022, was sent out earlier this month to our 1,100 general ballot voters, the majority of whom are artists themselves, for induction at our ceremony.’
‘We are in awe of Dolly’s brilliant talent and pioneering spirit and are proud to have nominated her for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.’
This year’s inductees will be announced in May 2022, and the ceremony will take place this fall.
