Port Adelaide put ‘absolute s**t show’ journey to Cairns behind them to beat high-flying St Kilda by ONE POINT as Ken Hinkley registers back-to-back wins to halt alarming slump
- Port Adelaide put their ‘absolute s**tshow’ trip to Cairns behind them vs St Kilda
- The Power made the long trip to North Queensland via Sydney this week
- Charlie Dixon lamented the effects that the lengthy journey had on the squad
- However, they rallied and saw off St Kilda with a thrilling one point victory
Their journey to Cairns may have been an ‘absolute s**tshow’ but Port Adelaide did not let that halt their momentum after beating St Kilda by just one point on Saturday night.
The Power set off for North Queensland on Thursday but did not make it to their destination until Friday, owing to a diversion to Sydney because of a commercial partnership with Virgin.
The airline does not offer a direct flight from Adelaide to Cairns, so after spending the night in New South Wales, Ken Hinkley’s side travelled north and took part in a captains run as soon as they arrived at Cazaly’s Stadium on Friday.
Charlie Dixon has blasted the ‘absolute s***show’ travel plans for Port Adelaide’s trip to Cairns
The Power had to travel to North Queensland via Sydney owing to a commercial partnership
St Kilda had touched down 24 hours before their rivals, giving them more time to acclimatize ahead of Saturday night’s Round 7 contest.
‘It’s bit of an absolute s**t show at the minute,’ Dixon fumed via Adelaide Now.
‘We’ve got to do what we’ve got to do and cop what we’ve got to cop.
‘But it is a bit silly, there is a direct flight. I know we have a partnership with Virgin but to get people where they need to be straight away and keep us out of harm’s way you’d think they would put us on a Jetstar flight.
Ken Hinkley described the journey as ‘unusual’ and Dixon said it unsettled the Power squad
‘We are up there, can get a proper training session in and the boys can relax.’
However, the Power fought through adversity and ground out a seismic result against the high-flying Saints, who had entered this contest with a 5-1 record for the season so far.
The win moves Port further away from the foot of the ladder and boss Ken Hinkley is confident his side can reclaim the top four spot that many pundits predicted would belong to them before a ball was kicked.
